I know that there is already a thread about how realistic half life2 is, but I thought it would be ok if I shared my own story seperate. Mods?

Well, after the final battle against the chopper in canals (best fight in the whole game I think) I noticed that I was alone. No combine, nothing. I went in search of a lever to throw so I could open the flood gates and get on with the game. I moved on to the little red house with all the combine in it, took them all out with my magnum and moved into the house. Something just didn't feel right though. I proceeded to the are where you open the flood gates and did so. The music started playing and I felt really scared. Can't explain it but I just pulled out my magnum and frantically ran for the boat, I was sprinting! I got into the boat and started looking around, gaus gun ready to blow the shit out of anything. I was seriously scared. Felt like something was watchin me.

A few weeks later, I went to the steam forums to check out the G-Man sightings and, low and behold, G-Man after all, WAS watching me! This game is seriously realistic. I didn't see him or hear him but I just had the feeling something, or someone was watching me. And someone really was! Creepy. A game has to be really good to do that. I mean, ****, I didn't see him at all but I could feel him.

I need a cold shower.

G-Man after all, WAS watching me!

I figured some people wouldn't understand this.

*** SPOILER ***

What I mean by he was watching me is, there is a sighting of G-Man in that area. He is on the flood gate bridge. I had no idea he was there untill reading the story on G-Man sightings.

I remember Valve said months ago that they implemented a feature so that certain background sounds would play in some situations that would enhance the atmosphere. They gave a test example of having a player look down a mysterious black hole, without the music playing the player just pretty much ignored it, but then they had it play some sounds that are half-way between music and sound effect and suddenly the player became somewhat scared and careful around the hole. The funny thing was the players couldn't explain why they felt so different around it.

I guess they did the same thing for a few G-man scenes.

I felt the same, it's how a good game should feel. Although so many people are complaining about realism, this is the closest game to real to have come along yet, despite its wonderful mix of the surreal and futuristic.

Interesting story, because in the same exact scene i felt the same thing and actually spotted the g-man. I can't recall what prompted me to look. It was just too quiet...or something. After so much intense action on the airboat the sudden stillness felt eery.

That might of contributed to it. Nice to know i'm not just taking this game too seriously and other people think the same.

And that is what makes Half-Life 2 a step above the rest.

yeah i got that alot of times...i remember that part. I was walking around, did my suit zoom, saw G-Man...WASN'T EXPECTING that....whew, shot my magnum at him, screamed like a girl...realised who it was...told my roomate to stop laughing or he will have a stroke...I'll never hear the end of it :p Now me in Ravenholm......we wont get into that! ;)

I have a gripe!

I was playing through 'Follow Freeman' last night, and battling with Striders.

- SPOILER -

After the Strider chases you down the tunnel and you run into the derelict building, I decided to hang around and take out the Strider (the ammo crate on the top floor was a just begging to be used). I was ducking in and out of cover, taking pot shots as I went and not once, NOT ONCE did the Strider use the supression cannon on me.

This annoyed me, because it made me realise that the times when I'd seen it being used before were scripted events, and I thought most of the obvious scripting had been taken out of the game. Clearly, the only time the Strider uses the supression cannon is when there is conveniently located 'destructable scenery' to be found. I'm not really pissed off, but I'm still a bit disappointed :(

That said, my protracted battle with the Strider did allow me to fully recover my HEV suit charge (after destroying umpteen Scanners) up to 100. But why the hell did that empty handed dropship keep flying over and over again?
