I tend to get pretty pissed when talking about global warming, because both sides take offense at my view. "You're an idiot, how is it not obvious humans are warming the planet." "You are an idiot, how is not obvious to you that this is all bullshit?"

Is it so wrong that I don't want to choose a side? I don't think there is evidence for either direction, and frankly I'm tired as being branded an idiot because no-one can present clear-enough facts for me. Yes, humans warm the earth. But how much? What would the earth's average temperature be RIGHT NOW if humans had never come out of their caves?

By sun I hope he means 'atmosphere', because otherwise he is a complete [strike]idiot[/strike] silly-billy.

Are you trying to argue that the atmosphere has a more profound effect on the climate than the sun.

Global Warming is from God hugging the world

Duh

The sun spots argument is wrong, it doesn't account for the last 20 years of warming

Newt Gingrich? You've gotta be ****ing kidding me.

 way to take an objective view on this.

Global warming is happening- is natural, and will not be end the world catastrophic.

There ARE other environmental issues that need to be addressed that are more important, particularly the oceans.

People love to jump on the global warming bandwagon though because it's the cool thing to do. If you're going to be green that's good, but if people are going to be smug about it they better damn well be doing it for the right reasons.

Everyone always jumps to look at the places where the temperature is increasing, what about the places where the temperature is dropping?

Global Warming was hoaxed up just so that Al Gore could accomplish something.

It's only in part potentially natural.

And Global Warming has a HUGE effect on the oceans. Many organisms in the ocean cannot withstand the temperature fluctuations as a result of Global Warming and the changing weather cycles. They are in a delicate balance. And when one or a few go... huge chains of species dependent on those will also go. And it's cascading devastation.

If you study up a bit on the ideas behind Global Warming... colder winters are actually an effect of global warming. Global Warming doesn't just mean that the earth will uniformly heat up all at once immediately. You can't just look at the earth as a whole entity comprised of one part. It's complex and it has many different weather patterns that are being distorted and warped by the temperature changes.

Also, the atmosphere and the gasses which make up the natural greenhouse effect have a huge effect on our ability to live on this earth. Sun or not, without those gasses in the atmosphere, the earth would be uninhabitable by us because it would be too cold.

Global Warming is defined as "the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century."

Eh. Its still the Earth's natural cycle, its like the stock market which everyone freaks out about and doesn't listen to logic.

LOL. Comparing the earth's natural cycle of warming and cooling to the stock market is probably a bad idea for you, at least if you talk about this declining market and bank collapses and stuff.

Why?

Because it's entirely manmade. It was greedy businessmen who caused the market to collapse as it did. It wasn't just a regular course of the market fluctuation.

Haha probably. My point is, everything has its ups and downs. Life is like a roller coaster.

Or a river if you've read Siddhartha.

Just an FYI, it's climate change, not global warming. If it was warming, some places wouldn't be seeing longer winters.

Just an FYI it's global warming, not necessarily uniform global warming. Changing climate patterns due to warming can easily create localised colder weather systems.

Precisely what I said in the last page.

I know. He seemed to have ignored you so I thought repitition might be in order.

I'm still on page one. Silly people with default posts per page.

I have 30 aerosol cans just spraying out my window at any given moment, just to prove that global warming is man made.

Thank you good sir for spreading around the truth.

If the neutral cycle of global warming and cooling is like a turning ferris wheel. The Global warming we are experiencing right NOW is like free-falling. The extent of global warming, a zero point something degree Celsius per decade may not sound astonishing to you. However, it is to the many power of tens faster than natural warming, which is way too fast for Earth and other organism other than human to tolerate.

Even should you think anthropogenic global warming is not true, high concentration of carbon dioxide will pose other problem, such as acidification of oceans. It is just as devastating.

IMO, perhaps an even bigger problem than global warming, is the mass deforestation of the rainforests and overfishing. Yet these rarely get mentioned. Who gives a **** if the planet is heating up, we need to become sustainable and utilize renewable resources anyway, because otherwise when fossil fuels/fish/trees run out, we are going to screwed.

I think I made a thread about that in the past.

Yep. A poll on Oil Crisis, Global Warming, and Rain forest deforestation.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=134688&highlight=Rain+Forest

in 30-40 years... it is estimated that every single rain forest on earth will be gone. and when they are gone, two-thirds of all plant and animal species will be extinct from the earth(not all at once, but as the deforestation continues. As that is how many species are estimated to reside in rain forests globally. Two-thirds of all plant and animal species...

How would carbon dioxide cause acidification of oceans? I'm not saying that it wouldn't or anything, I don't know anything about this and want to know the reasoning behind it is all.

I agree about deforestation.

Dissolving CO2 in seawater increases hydrogen ions.

That lowers pH.

Think Carbonated Soda. How it's acidic with the carbonic acid.
