I think we were all suckered here. Read the news update very closely. It says half life 2 UPDATE. In short, what they said was stuttering is a symptom of texture thrashing, WHICH can be fixed by going to that link they provided.
Plus, the fact that there has been no automatic game update in our monitor box says it all. For those that say they HAVE something in their monitor box... the only thing I can think of is that is left over from your last update, whatever it may have been.
For those saying they see improvement... keep playing or load up an area that has always been bad. I started up a saved game and noticed no stuttering either. Then I played for a bit and got to a point where it autosaved. Sure enough... the sound skipped.

Steam updated, but the date was August 26th, 2004... my sound loops and the game still locks up every time I turn the corner.

I want my money back.

hehehe

Yeah, that august 26th thing has been there since your first steam login, just like everyone else.
I'm telling you guys. Everyone is running around with their heads cut off. There may be a steam update for you, but no game patch. Everyone's posting about this so quickly without reading what the news update actually says. They worded it very carefully.

see, some people are posting that it's better. Others say it's worse. All I'm saying is it's not because of anything you downloaded from steam, because nothing was provided!!

HL2 is now crashing for me when it wasn't before, it was just mild stuttering then. Now it's memory errors, peculiar noises from my harddrive and lock-ups that kill XP. Fantastic.

The patches for Counterstrike: Source Beta did that too. One patch after the other fixed something and messed up something else, even adding total crashes that weren't there before.

When Half-Life 2 takes 1 minute to load the menu screen and goes into a 10 second delay and a sound loop when you then dare to look at "options" from the menu, something is deeply, deeply wrong.

As we know, menu screens and selecting option screens tax pretty decent systems to their limit. Yeah, right.

We've been sold Half-Life 2 Beta.

i also have that update but it didnt cause me any trouble. ive already completed the game but i dont know if that has any effect on it. probably not. :farmer:

edit: ur computer sounds messed up doomed, ive had all that stuff ur talkin bout and didnt have a problem.
