So first it takes 10 minutes after it said I could "play now!" before it stopped saying bioshock was unreleased, then they lie directly to me! Before it was released it said I could preload now and play immediately when it was released! But it's been an hour since it was released and I'm only at 81% and it took nearly 45 minutes to go from 80% to 81%. Which basically means I wont be able to play this game until tomorrow basically.

How about it reads, "Preload now so you can wait 10 minutes before it's available, then spend 15 minutes decrypting, then another 15 hours downloading the remaining parts of the game!"

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed about it too. I still have 12% to go. 12% of a game that is not small.

I really feel like I got cheated, rather than saying "released at 3pm!" they just threw up a timer. Yea you could always add the hours up and figure out the correct time but if they say "available 9/21!" then to me (and probably everybody else) that means 12:00:00 on august 21st.

And if I had known that I would have had to download a gigabyte worth of data at 50kb/sec before I could play, then I wouldn't have steamed it either.

82% ....this is really frustrating.

F*cking Steam. How I love thee, until you lie to me. Then I hate you. Well, I'm at 84% and going nowhere fast... guess I better go play the demo a few more times.

Didn't we have these issues with HL2 et al after pre-loading? Gotta download the last bit of activation stuff, and the servers are being overloaded taking ages

jeez, who cares...it saves from a trip to the store....relax

That sucks.

I knew it would be released mid day. Staying off the net for spoilers but missing all those threads talking about release time seems like a double edged sword. hehe
Not always midnight releases. I always check what exact time they have planned. And it is really up to Take-Two and I'm guessing how releasing on Steam conflicts with retail agreements. I don't ever remember things being immediate. Always decryption and sometimes finish downloading whatever is left.

I got home at 4pm. I just started up steam at 5pm (few mins ago). Decryption took 10mins. I'm finishing up the 700MBs that was not downloaded the other day. Started at 80% and went to 84% in 4 minutes. Downloading at 500KB/s so far.
edit: now about 2/7th of the way done (200mb of 700ish).

WHOA! Just looked back and it sped up to around 450kbp/s.... now I'm at 96%

Alright... I love you again Steam... *hugs Steam*

Took 30mins for me to download what was left.

All to do with finding the right file mirror. Luckily all the Aus ones barley get hit so it's generally always max speed. Still 1:15:00 to go for me, damn ADSL1.

I can't play anyway, so it's not an issue to me, but it seems rather common around release times to have glitches, especially with automated systems.
My advice: get outside in the sunshine (or moonshine, depending on your timezone) and wait a bit for things to settle down.

Even if you bought it in the store you still needed the online activation.

so now I can play the damn game, but sound stops after the bioshock logo appears, and I can't leave get out of the submarine because the NPC's aren't moving. I've seen the xbox demo and I know they're supposed to move but instead they're frozen...they just stand there.

Unfortunately there's been reports of lots of show-stopping bugs on the PC :(

They are working on a patch.

If you have an AMD/ATI card, go to their site. They have a large hotfix that you need to download.

If you have an Nvidia card, they have beta drivers which work better for Bioshock (better FPS) on their NZone site.

What issues with ATI cards? Some users have had issue with the hotfix (new drivers anyway). I run the game fine with 7.6 I believe.

I'm on the latest Omega drivers for AMD/ATI and it's worked and performed wonderfully on high settings on my mid-range PC. I couldn't be more happy with the PC performance.

/knocks up on wood

how about you guys learn some patience?

and besides only fools play games just released. waiting half a year or so, is a lot more enjoyable when patches and mods are out. at least that's what i do. it certainly made Oblivion much more enjoyable, but not that much since it's a crappy game.

Nail on the head right there. It took 2 days before the servers calmed down enough to be able to authenticate my retail bought version of HL2. Which is why I will never buy another Steam game.

Iv had only 1 crash of 7 hours of gameplay and not one bug so far.

havent had a single crash....knocks on wood

I cant seem to find these beta drivers, linky?

I fixed the animation issues, but I only have ambient sounds. No guns shots, talking, or anything. Just...ambient sounds.
