hey all

im planning to buy a 6600gt agp but it says it will require a agp 3.0 slot but my mobo is agp 2.0

i think the voltage of 2.0 and 3.0 is same so that would mean that they are compatible but there will be a performence loss. in your professional opinion, what will be the result?

heres my spec just in case

p4 3.06 northwood 533fsb
1GB 2700
80gig
my mobo is gigabyte ga 8st800

thanks

I've never heard of AGP 2.0 or 3.0...only 4x and 8x...

I'm guessing that a 3.0 card will work in a 2.0 slot, just with a little bit of performance loss, but i doubt you'd notice it. Don't hold me to this though, i'm just guessing, never heard of these slots before.

AGP 2.0 = AGP 4x
AGP 3.0 = AGP 8x

Most graphics cards are both AGP 4x and 8x compatible, it should work

And 4x is 1.5v and 8x is 0.8v so the voltages are different

I assume it will run, but not at its full power as it would in 8x mode, better wait for someone who knows better to say something.

I'm fairly sure you want notice a huge difference running it at AGP4x (2.0). One way to find out of course!

In that case, the card will work. And i really doubt you'll see/notice and performance hits.
