This looks like something from halflife2!!!!

What I do is fry them and smear them in peanut-butter or marmite. Yum.

O________o
Wow, almost as big as my cat!

It actually does remind me of a mix of the Antlion Gaurd look, and a fast zombies movements (high jumps, fast movements)

Freaky..

Man that thing freaks me out. I'm not usually afraid of things, but i can't stand bugs, especially big bugs. I used to like them and i used to eat worms, but i can't stand them anymore.

You do realise the title of the list on that link is common camel spider myths ?

Well the site has some myths about them, but below those it says "THE FACTS" in big, bold capital letters.

Here they are:

"Most of these claims are false or greatly exaggerated. Camel spiders (so named because, like camels, they can be found in sandy desert regions) grow to be moderately large (about a 5" leg span), but nowhere near as large as dinner plates; they can move very quickly in comparison to other arthropods (a top speed of maybe 10 MPH), but nothing close 25 MPH; they make no noise; and they capture prey without the use of either venom or anesthetic. Camel spiders rely on speed, stealth, and the (non-venomous) bite of powerful jaws to feed on small prey such as other arthropods (e.g., scorpions, crickets, pill bugs), lizards, and possibly mice or birds. They actually aren't spiders at all, they're solpugids.. Along with spiders, they are members of the class Arachnida."

Here are some other links if you want to know more about them.

what?
i have tons of those crawling around my house
i like to pet them and stuff
i kiss them on the lips all the time
its fun :D:D

Come on it is not that big. It is like the size of a trantula. (I had a trantula as a pet when i was 10). I really have seen bigger spiders in Florida. Now not to say that it is a small spider it is just a large spider.

A Camel Spider Story:

Author: Unknown
If you are walking around and you bump something that is casting a shadow over [the camel spider], and the sun makes contact with it, you better run. It will instantly run for your shadow....and scream the whole time it's chasing you.

Can you even imagine something like that happening to you? That gave me the shudders. :x

I did a google and the worlds largest actual spider is this "Goliath bird eating turantula" http://www.thebigzoo.com/animals/zoom/Theraphosa_blondi_001.asp

You can have those as pets . Also remember spiders have exoskeletons which have a real limit of how big they can get unlike endoskeletons. So spiders dont get very big like only 8 inch (I think). That is how people are able to have them as pets but still .

Because it's obviously more interesting than you! Now scram if you don't like the topic..I did a search and found a video of a scorpion attacking one of these, the camel spider turned around and kicked the scorpions butt, and it was no small scorpion, it was big, very aggressive spider in the wild world...

Look at the guys sleeve in the that picture, the way they took that picture of the spiders great exagerates there size.

Look, flaming is obviously going to de-rail thread... But I just think this would be more suitable under the 'Off-Topic Chat' forum.

Okay, Um...
I don't believe the thread starter can "move" his current topic to the Off-topic forum...without duplicating it.
So technically coming in(and not being a moderator...)and saying it's in the wrong forum...is pointless.
You could've just PMed a mod to move this.

nobody else notices that this is old....

really old.... and i belive discsed before... but thats not saying it shouldnt be posted... seeing as im sure there are some people that havent seen it. But yes... myth.

The image showed up aroung the time troops entered iraq... the image is real... but the way the photo is is deceptive...

and spiders give me the jibblies.

can you imagine that crawling under your t-shirt biting you to bits, owch.

can you imagine that crawling under your t-shirt biting you to bits, owch.

can u imagine being on Headmasters Cadet Parade and having one crawl up your back? and not being able to move? i'm gonna have n/mares 2nite ;(

Great, now I wont be able to sleep tonight.

That thing is creepy! Did I tell you I hate bugs, especially SPIDERS! I simply can't stand them. I was locked into a room full of beetles and spiders, I'd hang myself

They are tiny, as this page describes:

http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/camelspider.html

The perspective of the picture is wrong ... the spiders are actually relatively small, yet a lot closer to the camera than what it looks like.

Just search on google, aparently there are a lot of untrue myths going round about camel spiders being huge, most sparked by that photo which blows the spiders completely out of perspective.
The composition of the photo draws your eyes to the legs of the soldier in the background for size comparison, rather than the other soldier's sleeve in the right foreground, which is the more accurate perspective.
Now look at the picture again, but this time picture the spiders as dangling from the mans hand that is holding them (that is his sleeve in the right hand corner of the photo)

had one of those in my bathroom in Dubai. just another typical spider really lol...but its hard to sleep at night when dune bashing in the destert, with nothing to protect you but a thin piece of material around you :E

I knew about that spiders long time ago

they arent that big but they looks cool

woah, I read this read before i went to sleep last night, and now i remember having some weird dream about them...cant sleep camel spiders wil eat me...:O

I think the part about the screaming is alos a myth.. But these things are aggressive, that video I saw where the scorpion, and a very big scorpion i might add thought he was gonna have one of these camel spiders for dinner, and the camel spider took over and ate the scorpion.. Heres the link, click on the java applet and watch..
