What I sent to steam, Can you help me faster?
Okay, many people have asked you this question. Because I have googled possible solutions, non-ever came. I have read the FAQ. And tried everything. I have also looked in other "Connect Problem" F.A.Q's but to save time, I won't supply with comments.

Proof:
"1. Your Internet Connection"
ALL APPLICATIONS that are not steam are closed. So there should be no problem (With the bandwidth. I even went into my task manager, and closed all un-needed "processes". I am not running on a router currently, but I was. And even when I was running on a router, I didn't have any problems connecting until 2 days ago (November 5th, 2005).

"2. P2P, FTP and Web Server Applications"

I don't even own any games/applications that use this. So there are no problems here.

"3.Security and Firewall and Anti-Virus Software"

Windows Firewall, is disabled [And when it's not steam is an exception]. And when I was using my Router, STEAM was an exception on that. However, even without the router as stated earlier, I am expierencing the same problem. And I have the newest updates too.

"4.Firewalls and Routers"

The ports are open, but even if they wern't. Why could I connect on Satuday, then come back from a trip, and now it does not work? No one was on my computer as I wasn't home.

"5.Router Problems"
With or without router, it doesn't work.

"6.Viruses, spyware and malware, netlimiting, anonymous IP masking programs"

I've scanned with Nod32, AntiVir, Norton 2005, Spy Bot, and Ad-Aware. And they are all updated. All spyware are gone, and virus'.

"7.Steam Related fixes"
I have done everything enlisted here, including reinstalling.

"8.Steam Network Status"
2 Days Straight I havn't been able to connect, and my friends are playing.
--------------------------------

I still can not connect and play with my friends on Counter-strike, or Half-Life 2. It is not just my account as I can't login to ANY account from my computer.

So, can you please reply with a solution soon? I am quite aggravated for finding no solution.

so by looking at that your problem is you cant connect to steam? right? did u do anything like open firewalls, open port 80(needed for steam)

Yes, I stated that. All ports are open. I have no firewalls.

First of, this sort of thing irritates me. You are aggravated? Why is that valves problem? As you already stated, your friends can connect fine, and you cannot connect, even with their accounts. This shows 1 thing. There is something wrong with your computer/router/internet connection. It is not valves responsibility to fix your computer, or your internet connection, so if you cannot fix it yourself, and are not prepared to pay a proffesional to do it, don't damn well moan when valves free tech support takes some time to reply to a problem that is not, frankly, thier problem.

Right, rant over, sorry, I work tech support, and get sick to death of people moaning at me like its my fault that they ****ed up thier own PC's.

As to your problem, as I say above, all we can say for sure is that somewhere along the way, something is blocking your computer from accessing the steam servers. It is either going to be, software, hardware, or something up with your net connection.
You say you are currently connecting direct to modem, so we know its not the router, therefore its either your PC's software, or your connection.

So, first of, have you noticed any other programs having trouble with the net? Anything out of the norm at all?
Obvious one I know, but are you on a capped service? Sure you haven't hit your limit?
Best thing to do, is to call your isp and explain the situation and ask if they can think of anything at their end that could cause the prob. If you can get web pages etc, I doubt it, but its worth checking.

Assuming that comes back negative for probs, try disabling/uninstalling norton. It likes to intefer with your internet connection for no apparent reason sometimes.

Other than that, either go through your add/remove programs and remove anything that would/could use the net, and failing that, go for a format/windows install. Not fun I know, but at least it will fix the prob.

IT'S THE BLOB!!!!!
Seriously, it probably is.

Please follow those instructions. If it still doesn't work, try reinstalling Steam.

My point was, if they could explain more points of why it isn't working as I have covered all there reasons. It is there responsibility to explain all possible fixes for errors there system gives. And after following them, nothing works. Something is out of the ord. I'm also tech support for 2 companies, one on my free time, and one as a job. And I will help people no matter how stupid the question is, even if it does really piss me off because it's so simple.

But no, nothing else is having problems connecting... That's what's odd. If steam is the only online program that cannot connect, it obviously is tied to steam in some way, maybe not directly, but it is.

This is where you and I are not seeing eye to eye. Yes, assuming it is their software that is at fault, they have a responsibility to help you sort it, however, it is not their software at fault, as everyone else is able to connect fine. Well, ok nearly everyone, I'm sure there are a few others out there with errors.

Anyway, that dosen't really matter, as none of that helps you get connected. What will help is tracking down the blockage between your PC and the steam servers. Have you talked to your ISP yet? Also, have you tried formatting? Being a techie, it will be a pain, I know, but not an actual problem, because you run regular backups, don't you? *Wags finger*

:D Ok, its a known fact that no one runs backups as often as they should, but I would give backing up and formatting a shot, as I expect its going to be the quickest way to get a resolution. As I'm sure you know better than anyone, trying to fix a mystery problem like this without actually being sat at the PC is like trying to saw off one of your buttocks with a pen knife. Its not actually impossible, but its a real pain in the arse.

Ha ha, I agree with that last part.

I havn't reformatted, but done everything else. Im not gonig to bother reformatting, I have a backup, but I only backup every month and I have some new shit my friends got me that took forever to get this week. I'd rather indefinatly stop playing CS and give my accounts away (ALl games included, besides CS: CZ) to my friends.
