I have purchased the retail version of HL2 and I understand that it makes me the owner of the bronze package in steam terminology... Well, so far so good. The game was great and I want more, of course. Fact is that I never played HL1 back in 1998, so I thought I would like to give the new Source version a try. But unfortunately it's not included in the bronze package... Now what do I do? I don't think I can upgrade to the silver package because steam tells me that it has already been purchased...

Any help is highly appreciated.

You can't get it easily. The only three ways I think you can get it at all are to:
1. Sign up for a second steam account and purchase Half-Life 2 again, just to get Source (at $39.99 or whatever, that's way overpriced)
2. Get Half-Life 1 original and play that (which is probably the most convenient option - there really is very little difference between Source and Original)
3. Wait for Valve to release it as part of another payment plan. They've already confirmed that we'll be able to purchase Day of Defeat: Source seperately, though pricing isn't confirmed. The same could happen for HL:S.

I have also purchased the retail version from the store and have been interested in upgrading also. I would really like to play DOD when it comes
and Valve mentioned that we will be able to buy extra games/mods for around 5-10$ but you will have to wait because they havent implemented this yet.

Thanks alot for the informative replies, guys. I guess I'll just have to wait for Valve to give me more options... Or buy a copy of the original version.

Did valve redo xen with a 3d skybox in HL source like they did with surface tension?
