After thinking a bit about the forthcoming Doom movie, I'm starting to feel a bit optimistic. I was a bit upset that they decided to move away from the original basis...."an invasion from Hell", but I'm starting to come aboard.

The basic elements of Doom games are present: horror, intense action, and atmosphere. I feel that if the writers went with the Hell concept, it may have been too thin and put themselves in a postition that they could not succeed: meeting fan expectations. Making the premise of the film different enough from the game avoids that and expectations are immediatly lowered. I agree that the virus thing will obviously resemble Resident Evil, Night of the Living Dead, etc, but it's enough to extend Doom rather than try to recreate it, which may be an insurmountable task. Furthermore, I've yet to see a peice-of-shit movie with the Rock, except for maybe the Scorpion King. He has really evolved into a pretty good actor....he looks great in "Be Cool". Maybe I'm just talking out of my ass here, but I have faith that this will be a decent movie.

After hearing an interview with the Rock, I was kind of won over. He claims the action sequences are incredible and the movie is quite scary. ID said the concept is great and you know that ID was being as picky as the studios were. I'll admit I was pissed at first, but I'm now in the category of saving my judgement until I see the movie.

I read about it.........and laughed. Come on, Doom without Hell? Marines changed to SWAT Teams, no monsters from Hell, a virus (original ), no Mars, Big FORCE Gun...and a guy in a wheelchair called Pinky who mutates into a Pinky demon...

Its just not Doom any more, mediocre film at its best I predict.

It's almost exactly the same plot as Resident Evil, and we know how crap that movie was. At least an invasion from Hell is a bit different, on the movie scene anyway.

It's gonna suck, the makers had no intention of EVER making a movie similar to Doom, they just fooled id into giving up the name so they could get people watching their own crap story.

Best avoided and go play the game, better FX I bet.. and better range of emotions in the game characters than your gonna get with Mr wrestling man.

Its cash in on the Doom theme and excuse the pun is doomed from the start.
Like AvP cashing on the alien, predator franchises.
Think Tomb raider, think Resident Evil.....Doom the movie will be pants.

Can't say I'm too excited about this, but like the Resident Evil's, I'll watch anyway.

This movie should never be spoken of as "The Doom Movie" because it dosent have a jack-shit to do with Doom, there ya have it.

This might be a turn out as a OK movie (most likely not though)

But it just dosent make any sense to use the Doom name to make a movie about how cool the Rock looks when he lifts his eyebrow.

Everyone should stop stereotyping the Rock as a stupid wrestler who lifts his eyebrow in all his movies. He's actually, a pretty good actor and has done pretty good movies.

But...alas, the Doom movie will be horrible.

Never a truer word has been spoken.

You liked the second resi evil film?

The first one was...mmm...okayish... annoying because they had such a great license and just arsed it up...
But the second one was about as good as AIDS.

All I'm saying is that I'm not gonna poopoo a movie I haven't seen yet as so many folks have been. I wasn't fond of the idea of not using the original basis and am still not totally convinced yet, but having the Rock in this movie made me feel a lot better. His recent performances made me feel he's capable of carrying a movie such as this even if it is poorly written.

Regardless if it follows the original story, I'm going to see it and give it a fair shot.

It was a ****ed up idea just to make a movie when they don't even have a grip on the thing.

Not really, but I watched it anyway. I didn't bother to go to the cinema for any of them. It just one of those things when you're at a mates house, going through the DVD's and seeing a film you haven't seen before. 'Hey, lets watch that. I haven't seen it yet.'

Its a shame really, 'cause Resident Evil 3 was such a great game.

Good article about Doom just out today. Funny, this article says it takes place on Mars in a military research base......hmmmmmm.

Any ideas why they would say this?!? Maybe something changed and they decided to go back and use the game's premise??? The Rock said "This IS Doom", maybe refering to the fact that they were going to deviate originally. Could be good news here??

I feel as if the point of the Doom movie has died due to the fact hell was taken out of it.

horror and intense action have hardly ever worked....ever

i don't even think comedy and horror go together...apart from lake placid and shawn of the dead...but thats about it

horror should be straight horror and take itself seriously...when i go and see a horror film, i expect to be disturbed.....not to laugh or admire bullet time effects

I dunno about mediocre, it might be good, except that it wont live up to the DOOM name. Face it, doom is one of the best known games of all time, if you never played a computer game, you probably know what doom is. If you make a Doom movie, keep it just like doom. This would be like taking the Lord of the Rings and changing half of it. You cant bFg with a classic.

"Bio Force Gun"

Ugh.

I still don't see why they changed the name. The movie has an R rating, it's not ike they have to keep things clean. I mean just think of the dialogue:

>> Man pulls out huge weapon to give to soldier <<
soldier: "That's a big ****ing gun"
:p

...Well maybe not.

Also I don't see why they removed MARS. If it's on Earth, it would be too easy (nuke the facility and be done with it). If it was on MARS there would be the feeling of isolation (a good horror tactic), and a feeling of desperation.
They've already gotten rid of most of the sci-fi stuff. I bet it isn't even in the future anymore; probably modern day.
I could go on and on.

Good interview. Plus the fact that the movie is coming out in August is cool too. But I still can't shake the feeling that this movie will not be the DOOM movie the fans want. Which makes you think; if the studios are making the movie with a target audience in mind, why would you alter the movie to something that the fans would have second thoughts about going to see?

It'll be up to the trailer to change my mind.

Roar!

...What film is that from? Theres no "Doom"-ness at all. Still, cant be worse than the comic. Rip and tear!

I'm going to go watch it. And either point and laugh or boo and jeer with popcorn throwing. Either that or enjoy it ;)

I can't see it being anything special, I'll be waiting to see what they can pull off with this...
