Thread Resurgency

This is just a quick question: Maybe times I have seen threads posted only to have people respond with "search" and things like that yet when threads are brought back because of new info they are locked immediately.

I can understand that you dont want them spammed BUT this new info could be useful...This is mainly due to the thread that asked about putting a wallpaper that can span 3 monitors and a user responded with a new site that hadn't been listed - useful to anyone who had been wondering. This thread was 3 years old and was then locked!

If threads are not to be revived why not just instantly lock them when they drop a few pages or something like that....
I am now wondering how the guy even found that thread!
