Because after he made Star Wars he saw no reason to bring this movie up ever again.

The director's cut is fairly interesting, I found the extra scenes suited the movie well (granted never watched the original version), I saw it as the Ridley Scott version of 1984 but done by George Lucas.

The movie fairly drags in the middle and ending is very open ended.

I saw this about 3 weeks ago, worth a rental but i bought it for like $3 so it was worth it anyway.

Yeah, I just watched it not knowing what it was about. If I had known it was a version of 1984 or Brazil, I wouldn't have sat through it all since it doesn't really show anything you haven't seen before if you've watched those. Still, very decent movie.
