"Tick" The Meaning?

It's been over a year since I've played any online game (curse you 56k!), and I completely lost the terminology... and I keep seeing "Tick" in titles. What the hell does tick mean? For instance, here is one of the servers:

BFGGaming.com CS:S #3 | Deathmatch | 66 Tick

66 Tick... huh?

Tick is the amount of snapshots the server sends out each second, I assume. So a lower tick means that player models and such on your screen aren't updated as often as on a 66 tick, however the latter causes more lag.

If I'm wrong, correct me.

we run 66 or 100 (I think 100) on our server. its the honor server.

hmm....weird.
on a 66 tick servers...my shots don't seem to register too good.
100 tick seems fine tho.. real wacky.
