my is broken I know my 7800GT should still be working my ram as well,so all I need is a new mobo and cpu, what do you guys recommend?
I'm probably going to get a combo pack fry's electronics they have cpu/mobo combos in the $200 range, what else do you guys recommend?

It all depends on how much you want to spend.

There are those here that are diehard AMD fans and then there are those that are diehard Intel fans. Each will "advise" you on what you should get.

Over the years, I have used CPU's from both companies. Both companies offer great products. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 installed in my current system. For me, I love the performance it provides & at the time I bought it (approx 1 year ago) AMD did not offer anyhting that was compairable in performance & in my price range.

For my clients, I will admit that I currently only advise & use Intel's Core 2 Duo's or better, unless my client is set on an AMD setup.

The first step however, is to have a realistic amount of cash put aside & then go from there. Give us a cash amount to work with that you HAVE, not that you can save up.

Well I make like $500 a month now working a a few hours a week at a Best Buy,so i could get the case there I have some 184pin ram sticks but i dont think they will work with a Intel setup,I really want a core duo so Might have to buy some extra stuff like ram my PSU should also still ebw working it's 500watt psu. I guess I would spend $250 for eveerything

Sidewinder,

There are companies that make motherboards for users that want to be able to use their current hardware with newer hardware. For example, look at my Sig. I have an ASRock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard. It supports both AGP AND PCI-e. It also supports 184 pin RAM (DDR) and 240 pin (DDR2) IT ALSO supports Intels new Dual Core CPU's. And if that wasn't good enough, the mobo was about $55. That was a year ago, you can buy a better updated ASRock mobo, that still supports older and newer hardware together and still pay around $55-$60. Other companies are making mobos that support both formats now as well. Plus, for $180, you can buy an extremely powerful E6420 CPU, thats running at 2.13GHz w/4mb L2 Cache. I have the E6400. Runs @ 2.13GHz as well, but only has 2mb L2 cache. An overclockers dream too.

Just a little info...

What hardware do you currently have? How much RAM? Video Card type?

Well the thing my PC was destroyed by my dad,the only things I could save were my 7800GT my ram sticks,my CPU and mobo are crushed so is my X-Fi soundcard and the case is all bent too.
but before this my specs were:

AMD64 3500
EVGA 7800GT
2gig of kingtson Hyper-X
and an EVGA mobo that came for free with the 7800GT

Agreed with MRG. Asrock dual-vsta + e6420. Not the greatest board for overclocking, but it's a good board and supports DDR and DDR2.
