So I just got L4D, and looking @ the controls I'm upset that:

a) You can't quicksave like HL2, if you die you start waaaaaaaaay back. Like, unnecessarily back to the point where I quit the game out of frustration (playing on advanced).

b) You can't ask your team to run to you or send them to certain spots, like you can in HL2. Okay so I need to get over HL2 but a little team control would be nice. Not as big an issue as the first one though, I want to enjoy the difficulty but be able to restart a couple meters back rather than entire floors or something.

I began playing on advanced, talk about crazy fun. Just upset that I had to restart 3x because of tanks, but not that restarting is bad, it's that going back to the beginning fckin sucks! Any way to quicksave through console or anything?

So what do you guys think, should I play on normal? Or stick with advanced? The reverting to beginning of the map is really annoying, it's ruining it for me. Tips appreciated, I need to learn to stop shooting my team, but its a mess when hordes come.

Stick to advanced if you're dying and for the love of god, play with some friends, the AI is awful in comparison to a few good friends to play with ;)

Have you tried verses mode yet?

You're playing single-player Left 4 Dead?

Well, there's your problem.

Yeah I just wanted to beat it in a run to see if the single player is any worth it, I really like the concept but unfortunately it seems Valve doesnt care for the single player mode. Guess online it is...

The cooperative story narrative was exactly what Valve intended. The bots most important function is to fill empty player slots.

They really should remove single player mode entirely, it's giving everyone the wrong ideas.

Tip #1: If you have a shotgun, lead the group and crouch down when fighting. Do not linger behind just so you can shoot someone in the arse.

Tip #2: Shoot the zombies behind your ally before you shoot those in front, they should be able to deal with those easily.

Tip #3: Do not pick the same upper-tier gun as everyone else, but at the same time think about the scenario and what sort of gun is of most use.

V-Man told me a great one today.

When you're playing against Advanced+, save your medkits for when your hud goes black and white.

And in the mean time get repeatedly incapacitated so you have to be babysat? no thanks.

if you're black and white, just die and have the team pick u up later.

It's not very narrative after they chopped out the whole campaigns all fitting togheter story arch.

Now, with all campaigns separate with the survivors espacing every time (wasn't that copter supposed to crash, hum?), it feels like a dumb movie.

It's supposed to feel like a dumb movie. :|

Obvious tips:

Tip #4 Leave the witch alone.
Tip #5 Throw molotovs at any hordes that are running at you, preferably at a far away distance and never in close quarters.
Tip #5 Try to ALWAYS aim for the head.
Tip #6 Never lone wolf, your team needs you.

I dunno if it's just me, but I always think of 28 days later when I play this... just that the normal infected don't vomit blood on you... it's awesome.

...
Tip #7 Never, NEVER take down Tank by yourself.
Tip #8 Be quick to spot Boomers, they can summon Horde in less that seconds.
Tip #9 Don't waste medikits, they are very scarce.
Tip #10 Don't be greedy, give pain-killers or medikits to those who really need it.

Don't approach COOP as your backup plan to a bad single player experience. Approach COOP as sharing a single player experience with friends. It is way better. This is only game I have ever played that even when the game is so unfair me and my friends laugh it off as we have to replay the level all over again. You won't get that with bots because there is no amount of single player Valve can code up that will match playing CO OP with friends.

The whole design purpose of L4D is that of a cooperative game, that is why it was made, people dont buy Counterstrike hoping for a strong singleplayer, nor do they buy Fallout 3 hoping for multiplayer, I guess valves only mistake in this respect is acctully calling the offline mode a "singleplayer", maybe they could have gone with "Play Offline" or "Practice".

Yeah, "Practice" would've been a good name for what it is. They need a "Practice" mode for playing as Infected, though. The controls and strategy can take a little getting used to.

Tip #11: Use Pistols where you can to preserve ammo.
Tip #12: If you Melee Hunters as they pounce to you it stops them attacking.
Tip #13: Melee people being strangled by Smokers to release them. It's quicker than running towards the Smoker for the kill.
Tip #14: Melee hordes of Zombies as they swarm you before taking a shot.

Unless you're using a shotgun, then feel free to spend 10 shells killing that zombie a mile away. :E

Tip #13: Melee people being strangled by Smokers to release them. It's quicker than running towards the Smoker for the kill.

This really depends on the location of all three parties involved. :) Just be aware that melee can be faster provided you are close enough to the guy being strangled.
