To All Those Getting Headaches Playing HL2!

Alright, from what I see, a lot of people complain of headaches caused by playing HL2. I noticed that the Source games tend to lock themselves at 60hz Refresh Rate, and give errors if a Refresh Rate Overrider is turned on. The fix to this is as follows:

1) Update your monitor's drivers.
2) Find out the Maximum Refresh Rate that your monitor supports for the resolution that you prefer gaming on (lowering resolution will result in higher possible refresh rates). This step is just for informational purposes. You may skip it since Step 4 completes this for you.
3) Download RefreshForce (google it).
4) Tell it to "Auto Find" your refresh rates and modes. Click Apply.
5) Go to Steam --> Right click Half-Life 2 --> select Properties --> select Launch Options.
Now you can specify the width, height and refresh rate of the screen on which you will be playing. Mine, for example is this: -w 1024 -h 768 -refresh 100
This means I am running a resolution of 1024x768 at a refresh rate of 100hz.
6) Click OK and close the Properties window.
7) It's best to restart your computer now, since you applied that RefreshForce fix.

Enjoy!!!

I get a headache just reading that.

Its because you're all spastics, and you're spacking out while being spanged!

That program is good because it tells you your maximum refresh rates AND makes sure that they are used.

I get the same sickeness seriously. Like i feel disorented an shit man its weird this whole day iv felt like shit. Never felt like this, dunno whats the deal.

me too out of all the damn FPS games i got
this is the first one that makes me dizzy and wanna throw up
running 1600x1200

OMG i do have a headache, played it 7 hrs straight

I became quite queasy after playing half of the airboat levels and had to stop. Never had that whilst playing a game before and wondered what might be causing it.

Only game that ever gave me motion sickness was HL1.. and I've probably played every major FPS that's been released since Wolf 3d... I think it's because in HL1 Gordon seems to move at like 30 mph... like he's on rocket skates or something. I thought maybe HL:S would be better, but it's the same thing. Oh well... at least HL2 doesn't give me problems.

my brain (or lackthereof) is fine

my wrists on the other hand.

i need them for other reasons

thanks hex, had also sickness & headache playing hl2 yesterday(first time in 10 years of playing 3d-games)

ok, I was playing extra long that day with less sleep (like everybody I guess????) but obviously others have the same problem.

will now try your fix :sniper:

I get motion sickness from playing Half-Life. I played HL:S for a while yesterday and it made me sick. It is the only game that I can think of that does it to me. I haven't noticed it with HL2 yet.

Maybe it's because HL2 looks so realistic that your brain thinks it's real :p Thankfully I haven't noticed any sickness/headache.

heh seems like the weak minded people get the motion illness bolox ,,,i guess halfllife 2 wasnt made for you because ur brain cant handle it cleary

It could also mean their brains are more perceptive of what their senses are telling them.

stop playing continuously for 16 hours without brakes and you won`t have any headaches

A friend of mine experienced headahces whilst playing. He changed the aspect ratio to 16:9 (ie. wide screen) and his headache stopped. Don't know why, but its worth giving a go if you've tried everything else.

It's called VVS, Virtual Vomit Syndrome. Many people who have this syndrome with videogames seem to experience it more with first-person games than third-person games. As many as 10% of all people are affected by motion sickness to some extent.

Some solutions:
Try taking an anti-nausea medication before playing your videogame.
Change the aspect ratio of your screen.
Change the refresh rate of your monitor.
Play more third-person games. :p
