I used to listen to trance way long ago when I first started to realise that I did not like all the mainstream rock stuff. I soon moved on to more intelligent dance music and DnB, and now I view trance as giving techno a bad name because it's what most people think of when they hear "techno", and I dislike it.
Not trying to offend you Pobz, I saw the war with Que you had, just stating some related information.

Anyway, i never really realised there was a lot of music on youtube. Google video is great for live sets btw because they allow really long videos. Im making my own list of stuff i found on youtube and elsewhere.. Unfortunately almost all i can get is radio edits and the more commercial versions of tunes but ill post what i find in this thread.

Just for clarification, in MY VIEW it gives techno a bad name because it makes it more difficult for me to explain what type of music I like because most people don't understand these complex sub-genres. I didn't mean that trance is the crap of techno, just for my personal reasons I just explained it makes it difficult for me. I agree, when someone says techno I imagine just a mindless synth drum sequence on a loop with one or two notes inbetween.

Trance is so much more, ok most of it is still synth, but theres vocals and the tunes are so deep and mesmorising. Nearly every tune in that archive reflects moments in my own life, they're personal and emotional. For example, this tune, these lyrics. I think most people just dismiss trance and overlook the lyrics.

I'm a multi-genre loving guy, but there'll always be a place in my heart for the tracks i've listed in that archive of videos.

I'm with Vegeta here. I used to really be into trance until I discovered artists like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, which is much more enjoyable to me.

Unfortunately though, to the uninitiated, all electronic music = cheesy club trance.

And I found that video funny just because of the akwardness of people painted like animals pretending to attack each other.

Instead of hating trance why not just explain that theyre two seperate subgenres of dance music. Its really not that complex, people just overcomplicate things with all these ridiculous subgenres.

Of course not, just more intelligent. That something is labelled idm makes neither it nor its fanb0yz intelligent, only arrogant.

Pop that gets labeled trance or even techno in america, gives dance music in general a bad name. Its just not trance. In fact most 'trance' since the mid 90s isnt really trance, which really started dying out around 1997 and isnt easy to find now because hardly anyone produces it any more.. I dont like most of it (not that that makes it bad music necessarily) but there is some really good stuff amongst the crap as is the case with any type of music.
