To forgive.

Tonight on ITV, they broadcast an interview with the sister of black teenager Anthony Walker, who was murdered in a racially motivated attack.

Her brother was a devote Christian and it appears so was his family. His sister has chosen, possibly through her strongly held religious beliefs to forgive the murderers.

I was moved and admire her strength in the face of such a dreadful situation.

So it raises the question, would you forgive?

Is forgiveness a natural human condition or is it a condition brought about by strongly held religious beliefs ?

I applaud her for that. A true chrisitian forgives people no matter how hard and isn't out for revenge. Whether i would be as strong as her in that situation is doubtful. But its good to hear that some people actually got jesus's message.

Neither would I. It is so horrible to loose someone. But knowing that it was caused by people who purposely did it... revenge would be the only solution I'd consider.

That girl is clearly an outstanding person; I have a lot of admiration for her.
I couldn't do that were I in her position and, even from my position (not knowing him, having only been to Liverpool once in my life) I cannot forgive the murderers. I hope they get put away for a very very long time and that they get the shit beaten out of them daily in prison. I cannot stand racism as it is, and racially motivated violence tips me over the edge. Those c*nts need to pay for what they did.

I would have an extremely hard time forgiving them and i would never forgot but my only amount of revenge would come from the knowledge that someday, justice will be done.

I don't understand the point of forgiveness unless the offending party shows remorse and repents. In such a case I might be able to forgive someone no matter what they did to me, but just randomly saying 'I forgive you' when someone probably doesn't care in the slightest about being forgiven or not...I dunno, I don't see what it achieves.

If they were trully sorry for what they did (not because they got caught of some shit but because they commited a terrible act) then I would forgive them yes.


Otherwise no, never.

Exactly, i would have a much easier time forgiving someone if they are remorseful for their actions and they're a better person. I just don't think i could forgive anyone for anything when they feel no remorse against such an action.
