Not really, for the past few years betas are more of PR stunts rather than serious testing platforms.

I thought MMOs were the only genre that took betas somewhat seriously (and sometimes not even then, if the finished product is any indication). Otherwise it's pretty much just "here's a free trial, but don't tell anyone, k?"

Yeah console beta's have mainly been demos of the game as of late. I signed up anyways...I always like playing games before most other people.

Well the beta's are a lot of times used as PR events, but they still get lots of good info out of them.

Here's some questions I guarantee that this beta will answer for the team.

1) Are there any glaring exploits we haven't caught internally?
2) How does the netcode hold up under real-world conditions, and how can we improve it further? (they'll definitely be gathering data on this because this is probably the biggest thing they are looking at)
3) How is our voice control working, and what needs to be tweaked?
