Too Late To Start Play HL2?

hey all....

new member here just wondering if it was too late to get into the game?? I am strongly considering buying HL2 this afternoon and rotting away hour after hour playing online and off. I'm just wondering if I'd be so far out of the loop with the online play that it would just be more frustration than anything, and I'm also wondering if this is a game that will have support, patches, expansions for a few years...like many of the top tier PC games of today.

I considered doom3, but obviously was able to read the same reviews as everyone else that all point in the direction of HL2 being FPS king.

Thanks for any answers guys

Half-Life 2 is a great game to get into. Have you played the first? And yes, HL2 is FPS king ;)

I'd say get it, play it to your hearts content. It's never too late. They are creating an Expantion/Episode right now, Cant wait. Patches come out when problem arise, and Support, well...we are here :D

It's a first person shooter? How can you be out of the loop! If you order the steam silver package, which is a good deal, I think you get the original Half-life as well, or Half-Life source.

SOoo..

If you really felt out of the loop you could go back and replay the original.

I think half life 2 will definately be supported for years to come. Not only that but you'll get access to the hundreds of mods, some of them destined to be great, for free....

Definately buy it! You will not regret it. Just make sure you meet the requirements before you buy it.

HL2 and Doom3 are very different, that's the first thing.

Second thing, definitely not too late. Buy HL2, play through it, and then start with the online gaming if you like. An expansion is coming within 4-6 months, and updates are constant.

Third thing, HL2 will play much better if you have played HL1.

You may start out of the loop in Counter-Strike: Source, but just stick with other people and learn the maps. HL2 Deathmatch you should be fine, it's usually too hectic and fun to worry about that. I still don't know the maps well but they are fairly small and easy to get the hang of.

How could it be too late to get into any fps
i'm confused
its barely out 6 months!!!

It could be too late as in: 10 people are online on saturday nights. How long it's been out (6+ months) makes it a "not new" game. So as I usually do before buying a game, I check out and see how populated it still is, what expansions are expected, etc.

If it was a newer game I wouldn't even ask, but since it's aging, I just want to do my homework.

I'm also not seeming to understand the online...why do I HAVE to play a counter strike game? What happened to just HL2 online?

I am not interested in CS....

You can play both, and both are populated, don't worry. CS:Soure won't die any time soon and HL2: DM is very much alive and kicking.
Plus all the mods that are coming.

don't discount doom3, i had just as much fun playing through it as i did HL2 - it's a completely different type of play though - and the RoE expansion pack is just fantastic:)

Even if you never played online the single player would be more than enough to keep you entertained.

HL2DM is very active, and most people (me included!) haven't mastered it yet. Just remember, don't forget the Gravity Gun, especially as a method of launching grenades and catching those Pulse Rifle balls.

Buy it and play it through. Then, when the expansion comes out you'll be up to date.

Just buy it, Only singleplayer is suit to buy without doubt. Very fun .It very great game that the world never has before.

I bought HL2 when it's almost out for 4 months... Trust me, it's not too late.

Dude, it's never too late to play a game... I don't know what you're talking about.

I got my copy for Christmas because my parents bought the game for me first day it came out, but they didn't want to make me pay for a game I already have when I asked if I could go out and buy it, so they told me I couldn't buy it because it was probably stupid... Wow that pissed me off until I found out the real reason.

I bought HL2 after a few days it was out :dork:

Of course it isn't too late. I bought Half-life 1 last year for the first time and loved it. I also reccomend Doom 3 and it's expansion, it's a kick ass game.

yeah...just the number of mods for HL2 is insane :rolling:
HL2 would be money well spent as far as im concerned.

its not too late, i bought the game about a week or so ago, but had to send my pc back, and have bairly played it, i wont really start playing untill next week, its deffinatly not 2 late, and with counterstrike, ull be surprised how quick u can pick it up,

It's definately not too late. It's a great gaming experience that no one should miss out on. So you should get it for sure.

yes, it's too late. sorry. ;(
rofl!!!!

Half-Life 2 is here to stay for many, many years. If not for the modding community, then yes it may be an outdated game in another year, but thankfully not :)

Buy HL2, learn to love it, play CSS, wait for total conversion mods!

Hopefully all the new tech being implemented into Source with 'The Lost Coast' will go on to future-proof HL2 and its mods for as long as possible.
Just look at how long HL1 survived, and see that this is a handful of cash you won't regret spending

Its great, I do suggest you get silver package off of steam, good deal.
I bought, and played Half-Life 2 the day it came out ;P (I actually preordered it)
Never to late to buy a game...
Doom 3 was so so, after about half the game, it feels the same for everything... A monster is going to pop out just over there... *boom* I was right!

Ask yourself this, "Do I like shotguns that arent glorified melee weapons?" if the answer is yes get HL2 NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep. looks like you missed out on HL2. too late now. Source is clearly obsolete by now, its been like 4 months. Go wait for a reallllll game, Duke Nukem Forever, and get it when it comes out in the year 2037 (when the asteroid comes to kill us all:::NASA says so) so you aren't to late for that one!

See there? 757 mods in development. Probably only a quarter of those will get completed, and I'm guessing a quarter of those will actually be quality.

That gives us 50 solid mods to play with.

I'd say that's some replay value.

You're not too late. But if you don't feel like playing through Half Life, Find a place on the internet to read the story of the first game. That should be all you need.

i sure hope cs source is going to die very soon. its a poor try at recreating the glory of cs, and ever since 1.5 the fun has been going downhill due to it being too noob friendly. on the other hand, hl2dm is a great game and i hope it lasts for ages to come

I treat CS:S and CS as totally different things. Leave 1.5 for all the l337's and leave CS:S for the n00bs. Everyone's happy. :)
