I purchased a new Socket 754 mobo and Micro Center told me the Athlon XP 3000+ would work in this mobo? Is this correct; I don't want to start building this thing and opening boxes if I was told wrong.

I would appreciate a little info, thanks.

First of all a socket 939 is your best bet. It is practically the same price and not only is faster it can be upgraded, socket 754 is a dead end.

Next an athlon XP will not work in a 754 motherboard. An athlon 64 is required.

Hope that is what you needed to know.
