Tools to make models?

I'm interested in creating my own 1.6 models and I'd like to know a tool/tutorial site so I can get started. Thanks Everyone!

Fragmotion and XSI|Modtool can be used to make models.

use Maya free learning edition. The only problem is that if you render the model, it is watermarked. But you can still export the model i think.
