A lot of weapons from the original DOOM are legendary.
Best shotgun hands down goes to DOOM with the Duke Nukem shotty coming in a close 2nd.

*Vortigaunt jumps out and blasts the Vortigaunt in the eyes. Vortigaunt was critically hit in the eyes for 126 hit points, blinding the creature and splattering it's head all over the walls. It was about time to redecorate them anyways.*
*Gordon reloads with a satisfying ka-chung!*

And the OSIPR saved me from a black headcrab zombie in Nove Prospekt...

I do remember seeing this before. Is there some qualification for a weapon that it's only included in it's initial incarnation? For example, the BFG in Doom 3 or even Quake 2 is arguably better than the original. If a weapon is game-specific (the laptop gun, was it?), what about the disk from Tron 2.0 or the Painkiller from, eh, Painkiller?

I will try to make a top ten but I dont remenber much weapons but will still try

10- chainsaw mounted rifle of gears of wars
well the only special thing of this weapon is the chainsaw so is not so special but since I didnt know whit what to start then I picked this one

9- electric tazer from syphon filter
it was some tazer that problaly was very unrealistic cuz a cord of electricity come from the tazer to the enemy and if you keep it for a long time the enemy will burn

8- special weapon of hippie van in vigilante8 that was a bunch of ovnis
I remenber when I played vigilante8 whit my friends,we allways hated that special weapon cuz it was very anoying and effective

7-nikita metal gear solid 1
cmom a minibazoka whit controllable missiles whats cooler than that?

6- gravity gun half-life2
I think this weapon really deserve to be in every top ten since is very unique and open a lot of possibilites to kill, however it still hav limits

5- reedemer unreal tournament games
a big nuclear missile that destroy anything,say no more

4-crowbar half-life
cmom is the crowbar so quick and deadly and the only alternative to the headcrabs

3-shrinken gun in duke nuke game
I remenber long time ago I played a duke nuke in ps1 and I still consider this weapon as one of the coolest ones ever cuz it shrinks the enemy and automatically you step on it,it was so cool and I allways died when I got it cuz I sucked

2-chainsaw doom game
from the deepest places of my memory,when in my house we got our first pc,I remnber the man that installed it was playing a game called doom,I was a litle at that time so I barely knew how to play and the game was kind of scary,but I remenber there was a part where I could get a chainsaw and kill everyone whit it,it was wonderfull but since I was a litle kid I sucked badly

and the number one is

1-pistol (or handgun) every game
yes the pistol,dont matter which one,that one you get at the begining of every game but forget when you get the big guns,it hav been in thousands of games and is impossible to hav a shooter game whitout it,also is the first weapon you get in every game(off course whit some exception but is the first fire weapon you get) and as I said,even if is not used in the rest of the game cuz you picked a better weapon,is allways there(whit especial mention to the metal gear and resident evil games and other ones where you use more the pistol that others games)and if try to remenber a game you will allways remenber the first pistol you got
so the pistol (or handgun) deserve the number 1 in the top ten weapons cuz is the one that makes the shooter game

Painkiller. The way this weapon interacted with the ragdoll physics of the NPCs made it so satisfying to use. It's like the souped-up gravity gun from HL2; you can grab them, juggle them, throw them, etc., but you can also turn on the cuisinart and grind them up, or throw it at them, turn it into a laser and bake them... brutal. Plus you can shake jewelery out of their pockets if you juggle them just right.

5. Voodoo Doll - Blood

"You don't trust this voodoo bullshit, do you? Ok right, then go out and try the Voodoo Doll from Blood! Sticking the doll while pointing at different areas on your enemy does more or less damage, or hit its weak point for massive damage. Your choice."

6. Shotgun - Duke Nukem 3D

"Trusty ol' shotgun. Although most shotguns are intended for point blank range to short ranges, the shotgun in Duke Nukem 3D is a killer from a distance, even long distances. Not bad, huh?"

7. Taurus Raging Bull - Black

"Ahh, no list is complete without a Clint Eastwood gun. And not only is it a kick-ass weapon with a great sound, tremendous firepower and awesome animations it's a beautiful gun to witness too."

8. Automag - Unreal

"The Automag from Unreal might not pack a punch but it's so fun to use. The accuracy is almost, if not exactly one hundred percent accurate. Want to go gangsta-style? Then go ahead! By pressing the secondary trigger you flip the gun on the side while firing at a much higher rate at the cost of accuracy."

9. Freezethrower - Duke Nukem 3D

"All other guns makes your enemies bleed or gib. But the Freezethrower does not, in fact it makes them a huge block of ice... sounds fun? It is. Kick them into million pieces, or just take out your handgun and shatter them. Or why not just point and laugh at them? Your choice."

10. Redeemer - Unreal Tournament

"Okay I admit, NO list is really complete without a badassmofo nuclear device the size of your upper half body. And quite said no game comes even close to what the Redeemer offers. Shot the rocked into an unsuspecting group of foes or, even better, right into a base and watch the gibs fly. Or just steer it yourself."

Honestly, I don't see the big deal with BFG type weapons. Extremely powerful yet rare weapons in games that just destroy everything don't typically change how the game plays very much and nor are they very clever. I can see the Redeemer being on lists, however, considering how cool it is to use the remote mechanism.

My list?

1. Dead Rising - A Mall

Why I chose it: Dead Rising hasn't been out for very long, but really it is a product of why these lists are fun; it is a blast killing enemies in original and fun ways. What could more original and fun than all the appliances and random objects in a mall? If the idea of mowing down zombies with a shopping cart, lawn mower, or potted plant is appealing to you -and it damn well should be- play Dead Rising.

2. Unreal Tournament - Flak Cannon

Why I chose it: Close range spread weapons are a staple in games. Most shooters just settle with a shotgun. Unreal Tournament wasn't most shooters. The Flak Cannon takes the concept a step further by allowing you to bounce shots off of walls and around corners. And lets not forget the canister bomb secondary fire. The Flak Cannon rules.

3. Goldeneye - Remote Mines

Why I chose it: In singleplayer the Remote Mines are an amusing toy, but in multiplayer they are an absolute blast. Luring your opponent in and blowing him to hell is a very viable alternative to shooting him. Sometimes patient kills are much more entertaining and satisfying than quick, exciting ones.


4. Gears of War - Torque Bow

Why I chose it: On paper, the Torque Bow doesn't sound very original; a giant crossbow that shoots exploding arrows. In practice, however, the Torque Bow functions differently from any other weapon in the game, and balances raw power with usage. Even though the Torque Bow may not be all that awsome, the concept of giving different weapons different mechanisms for firing is good enough to warrant #4.

5. Half-life Series - Gravity Gun/Crowbar

Why I chose them: The Crowbar and Gravity Gun are both very similar and very Half-life. They are utilities that can just as easily be used to progress through the game as they can be used to eliminate bad guys. Nobody forgets what it was like being thrown into an alien invasion with nothing but a crowbar, just like nobody forgets being given the gravity gun in a physics playground. It is all about control over the environment as well as the badguys.
