My story:
haha, ok im joking, i love it. I just wanted to get some attention to the thread, yeah its lame, but i gotta stand out among the million and one OMFG threads that will soon pop up.

Now i want to state it clearly: i have only played HL2 (at this point in time) for about 15 minutes. Why? because it took me ages to tweak and get working, and then after just 15 minutes of play my dad came home and decided my homework was more important than city17. bummer.

But it doesnt matter. HL2 has already got me. It is simply put incredible. amazing. mind blowing. no words can convey the sense of awe i felt as i walked out of the train station double doors. Even at my pathetically low graphical options (1024x768, all advanced options on lowest) the scenery is beautiful. i spent almost all of my time just poking around, picking things up and throwing them at the metrocops. i tried to do everything i saw. i tried to pretend it was like a movie: when the metrocops came past, i quickly jumped into the shadows. HL2 makes you feel like you are IN the game. Even after just MINUTES of play, i was totally immersed. The following race across the rooftops to escape from the combine was wonderful, except i didnt have time to examine each and every rivet in the beatiful east european scenery. My first and till now only save is at kleiners lab. When i can finally play the game again (not for another 20 hours or so) im sure i will totally enjoy the rest of the game. I just hope you understand that this game is revolutionary. it immerses you completely. think about it: i havent even TOUCHED a handgun or even the gravity gun and already i love this game. i can think of nothing else. If you havent got this game, you are doing something wrong.

peace out, and i hope you read my novel of text :p and i hope you agree as well. please post any comments you have, as im sure the board will be spammed with similar posts to mine and ill nvr see it again otherwise ;) :p

man i'm still waiting for the damn game to arrive! :p

can you post ur system specs please.

I advice you play in 800X600, that frees up a lot of gpu power to spend on more details

my specs are:
pentium 4 2 ghz
512 mb of ddram
GForce 4200 Go

i had a LOT of trouble setting the game up mainly due to out of date drivers, and also the default graphics settings were too high. btw clavius im on a widescreen laptop and 800x600 looks horrible. i may try it tho if i suffer from more slowdown

Glad you were joking because otherwise I was going to use an insult relating to Halo.

Can't. Wait. Need. Now. SHIP. DAMMIT.

Ive just finished plyaying it for the last 4 hours ....I love it ..its great and my eyes are twitching right now......soooo tired .......must sleep ....build up strength ... so I can play it tomorrow after work :)

damn, you guys make me jumping in my seat. hl2 arrived at home, when i was at school, but my dad wasn't there to receive it. :( i will get it later today.

wow, I'm so sorry. Seriously, not just bragging, but at 1600x1200 with full detail, 2x temporalAA, and 8x AF (on a x800xt, athlon64 3000) , the game looks fantastic. I do get hitches (the game hiccuping and pausing for a second, but only when new textures are loading or during a big explosion.

Only thing disappointing me performance-wise is the long load times for some changeovers (as long as 30 seconds). Maybe I need to defrag that drive.

Probably though, 1 gig of RAM is not adequate for the totally smooth experience at full detail  With 512 megs more, I could probably cut those load times in half and get rid of most of the pauses.

erm, i think youve been spoiled a bit... i mean 30 seconds? 30 seconds is nothing. it takes me 4-5 minutes just to start the game up.
