ive just got 3ds max 6, and the XSI for hl2 app

ive never seen a modelling program before and i was wondering if there are any guides for these, especially for 3ds max6 , for those completely new to it and all similar applications as the ones ive seen so far for beginners seem too advanced for me atm lol :o

also, are these programs the best for modelling and making cool scences and stuff like that? or are there any others that you recommend.

we could make this thread into a sticky with all the best info for total noobs, such as what programs to use, how to use them, and small competitions for those people just starting out!

im quite good at photoshop, but i wana have a go at modelling and stuff like that, so any help would be great
:)

muchos gracias  :E

so you've never used a modeling program before, but went out and bought 3DS MAX 6?

somehow that doesn't ring true, and we don't help warezkiddies here

first of im not a kid, and secondly i got a copy of it from work......

dont rush into assumptions frenric.....

*sigh*

[formal voice]I'm being judged on the way i type? I type like that in a colloquial manner as its quick and convenient for me to do so. I'm actually a lot older than Fenric....

I checked the tutorial thread that you linked to, but like i said - most of them assume prior knowledge of 3d modelling, which I don't have. Being more involved with the coding side of things, I've never managed to learn much about modelling and 3d design.[/formal voice]

well, i hope that u dont deem it neccessary to judge me based on the way im typing here :(

and ill do a search for 3dbuzz and highend3d... thanks :)

well if your a lot older than me then stop making excuses, you should be old enough to know asking how you did is going to make you look suspicious to anyone.

"I got it from work" is a classic line most use, along with "a mate gave me it" and "I got it from school", then there's the more often used "I'm just testing it because the demo doesn't do as much" or "I'll pay for it if I like it"

For a start anyone who pays that much for MAX isn't about to give it away, to begin with if its been used then its licenced to them and you can't just give MAX away like that, if it hasn't been used atall then selling it would make far more sense for a business than just giving it away, they have accounts to deal with and expensive software like that suddenly dissapearing into the hands of some employee doesn't look too good.

Also legit copies of MAX come with some excellent tutorials, and of course documentation on how to use the software, which is why online tutorials assume some prior knowledge, because its assumed you read the manual.

I'd jsut like to add that there are plenty of tutorials that start from the very basic.

As Fenric mentioned, the legit version of MAX (which you might have) has great tutorials included.

If you have questions, F1 is an amazing resource.

i would like to be the first non moderator to post besides the starter of the thread..
