My computer, a big powerhouse of well... Power. Shame its not square wheels so cant go anywhere. Ive been updating my baby for years, but somthing Ive allways missed doing, is updating my processer (Cus Im an idiot?) So I now have a TON of ram, and a TON of video card power, but little in term of processing power, Amd athlon, 1.24ghz. I need an upgrade.

Would any of you know these three things.

1. A site that sells computer parts in the Uk, and deliverys
2. A good processer that will be able to use my 1gig of ram and Radeon 9600.
3. A main/motherboard that can hold them.

Many thanks. Im looking to spend under 200 pounds for both the chip and card together.

There's not too much wrong with a 9600- still runs all games to date well enough.
Burn, you will be limited by what mobo you can get because you'll have to stick with AGP (vid card). AMD are making the best gaming processors atm, and you should be able to find at least a fairly good AGP socket 754/939 mobo and an AMD 3400+ for that, though im not sure how much things cost in the UK.

All the skt 939 AGP boards I can find at www.overclockers.co.uk (Which is the site i use all the time for computer parts) are about £55 to £70 to that leaves about £150 to £170 for the processor but i'm not sure how much of the £200 you mention, you really want to spend.

Thanks for that totally unhelpfull post. My video card runs everything to date just fine.

I think that going to a computer store and asking would be better, after all, they are pros.

(If this was not helpful, please don't kill me)

Ritz you foolish fool! I can't help you with your crazy British seller sites or whatever but I can with parts.

ABIT AV8 Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor

I have spoken and it was great.

EDIT: Ninja edit, don't buy from overclockers. They sell bunk shit.

What do you mean by 'bunk shit'? never heard that expression before..

hmm all teh stuff I have got from there (look at my sig) has been all brand new stuff in perfect condition, or maybe i have mistaken the word 'dink' for something else..

4 line max on that sig, please! :D

That includes spaces

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939_cpus.html

Thats the chip I got my eye on, the "AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3200BPBOX) (CP-118-AM) "

But I know nothing, all I know is its better then my current one, and within my prize range. If someone could find a cheap..ish mainbored on that site for me that would work with this chip and my video card. I would love thee.

Get the MSI Neo2 mobo with the 250gb chipset, the k8t00 chipset is crap compared to that, don't get that chipset with your mobo. The neo2 is very good and also has some awsome overclocking features if you wish to use that.

The 3200 is a nice chip, go with that!

Ok.. so this one "MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra (Socket 939) Motherboard (MB-027-MS)" would be fine? If so that works out great with my budget.

that's what im buying; but an ASUS A8V-Deluxe (same chipset though) and possibly the 3000+ Venice because its $50 cheaper and I can get a much better heat sink.

You can clock that 3200+ to 4000+ speeds (with the right cooling) partly becuase it's a venice core- good choice.

Yeh I heard this too, not as quick as that, but I'm sure you could get them to that speed. But if you dont' wnt to overclock, the chip is pretty quick at stock anyway :D
