I just got a new computer, i wanna transfer my copy of HL2 to my new computer, and so if i uninstall it from my old one, where i have been playing it up to now, can i just install it and use the same steam account and it will work, i have the retail DVD ROM version???
I dont wanna uninstall it for it to just not work, on the new computer.
Please advise me, thanks in advance....

Yeah, just install it. You need to re-authenticate the new copy with Steam but that won't be a hassle since the content servers ain't hammered anymore.

i have the steam version. i just installed steam onto my new machine, cancelled the first login, copied all my .gcf files over to the new machine, logged on and it was all fine. id imagine u can just install it on the new one and play.

I recently did this and had no problems. Just copied the steam folder across the network, then installed Steam over it on the new one, found what it needed, unlocked what it needed to unlock and haven't had a problem. Now what I do is keep a version on both machines, only use one at a time and test updates n such when they get released on the other, so that way if it does stop it from working, I've got the offline version on the other machine still usable until things get fixed.

Smart, TDE.

My sis is gonna upgrade her computer in her room down the hall from me soon... would I be able to do a similar thing to let her play when she does? Or would that be illegal?

I changed my main board last night and had saved the D:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\lord_galathon\half-life 2\hl2\SAVE directory on my fileserver. When I reinstalled Windows and then subsequently, HL2, I retransferred the directory in its place but the game doesn't see my saved games.

HELP!!! I want to continue but I don't want to start over!!!
