I have a question... is 5GB/month data transfer limit (only thing availible besides dialup) good for internet surfing and gaming, in the case I won't go over / come very close to going over?

Well, to put it in perspective, you'd have to average a transfer of over 170 MB per day in order to break that...

If you just game and surf, you should be fine. Just don't download lots of big movies (trailers and such) or files (like game demos). What's the limit for (school, work, etc.)?

ive got a 10gb cap, but there's 3 of us, and we all play bf:v online- always over at the end of the month. It sucks, cos the plan we're on is the highest bandwidth cap in New Zealand, and it's not nearly enough.

Don't even try to download any movies/games/tv shows etc., you'll go over the limit quick. I'm on Shaw's High-Speed plan, and they don't have a specific traffic limit, but I know it's roughly 20-30 gigs up/down per month from talking to different guys at tech support and from reading forum posts on broadbandreports.com.

I think that aslong as you don't go mad and start downloading huge files, you should be fine. Also if you can monitor it either using the a program like diluted suggested or by using an online facility provided by the ISP, then that is a good way of knowing what you can do for the rest of the month depending on how much bandwidth you have left.
