Transferring HL1 to Steam

OK, so I own HL1, but the copy is old, from pre-Steam days. I'd just use it in that regular way, install it, Steam knows nothing about HL1. Now, though, the new Steam client is out and I'm not as hostile towards Steam as I used to be, though still not a fan. I'd like to make Steam aware of me having HL1 and have it on my Steam account.

Question: if I go to register a product and enter my HL1 CD-key, will steam recognize it and add HL1 to my account, or will it see that as a piracy attempt? I don't want to just try wildly, as I wouldn't want my Steam account with my games on it closed.

No, you just have to type in the CD-key on the Steam account you want it on, and it should be fine. No piracy banning or anything
