Thank God for the online tutorials that exist for mapping, most of them are a great help! It's tough starting out though, as a newbie, when most of the time, I'm not sure what direction my tutorial search should take. So, besides the Source instructions, which can be a bit vague, is there an all encompassing manual for this stuff somewhere? Online or in book form? Any help is welcome here, and oh yes, I expect a few flaming arrows, but that's ok! Thank you in advance! :D

depends on what youre looking for - ICHIs thread is great, not really the basics, more intermediate to advanced...Mnemics tutorials:http://mnemic.d3files.com/ are also a great help

Both these are video tuts so are pretty big files...Mnemics tutorials start at basics and encompass a lot...

But mapping is a LOT of trial and error and the only way to really learn is to try things and ask if you do need help...Everyone was new at some point (although you will get people that try to avoid helping)

Remember, if you're still a complete n00b, you can also do HL1 tutorials, since Hammer remained the same in the basics (minus the I/O system) so lots of tutorials still apply.
