Triangles (and other shapes) appear during gameplay

Hi everyone.

I've tried looking for an answer to my problem, but with no luck. Here it goes...

During gameplay, triangles (and other shapes) appear all of a sudden. Once you move, one angle sticks to one point on the screen and the shape changes "dynamically". Occasionally I get "walls" which prevent me from seeing what's beyond a certain part of a map/section. Finally, more often than not, characters are connected to some point off the screen by a thick line.

My system specs are: WinXP SP2; AMD Sempron 2800; 1GB Ram; Graphics: Sapphire AGP mounting an ATI 9600 XT chip, with 256 MB Ram; HD 80GB.

If anyone knows what to do, please let me know.

Cheers.

HAve you updated your video card drivers recently?

Thanks for your suggestion, diluted.

I tried to update the drivers and still nothing. To give you an idea of what the problem is, I took a screenshot during a CS:S game.

I heard about a possible patch. Though a patch would be installed via Steam, right?

I'll gladly accept more suggestions.

Thanks again!

Possibly overheating. My old card did that when it got too hot. The hotter the card the crazier the errors, until it crashes.

Thanks for your reply, FictiousWill.

If the problem is due to possible overheating, are there any possible ways to work around the problem? I'll try and fiddle around with the Catalyst settings and see if anything happens.

Thanks again for your reply!
