My vote goes to Tool - Third Eye. I mean seriously, listen to it :P

'Come to daddy - Aphex Twin' is the first thing that comes to mind...

Oh and the entire HL2 soundtrack :E

Love Aphex Twin, but I don't know if I personally would classify those songs as trippy.

When I think of trippy, I think of drugged out, wierd shit. "Iced Cooly" by Boards of Canada qualifies. "Sublimit" by Autechre as well (particularly its last segment). If I had to choose something from Aphex... oh, probably this one track from SAW 2 that I can't remember the name of.

Probably something by pink floyd.

Or Boards of Canada, yeah. "You could feel the sky" is very trippy in an eerie sense.

I should've posted in that 'pretentious songs' thread- Boards of Canada fully and utterly qualifies.

Its teh p00s imo.

Anyway, what does 'trippy' mean? Aphex Twin might give you an epileptic seizure, but is that 'trippy?'

Off the top off my head, I'd say Within You Without You by The Beatles. That's pretty trippy.

Champaign Supernova by Oasis.

Anything by Pinkfloyd

and definitely Third Eye by Tool... Hell, watch the music videos by Tool if you want the meaning of trippy.

First off...

*shuffles around pants for a bit, whips out wang, and slaps you across the cheek*

Secondly... meh, I guess you could classify him as trippy if you want to. He's just not my definition of trippy. :) Abstract, fast, and strange, but not trippy.

Basically, the way I define trippy is this: If I were on acid, weed, shrooms, or ketamine, what would I listen to?

Welcome to the Machine-pink floyd, i think i reached an altered state the first time i heard this song.

or

The one two punch of Airbag/Paranoid android by radiohead.

Not that I'd realy know anything about ''tripping'' or whatever its called, but I'd say Explosions In The Sky's entire 'The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place' album would definetly qualify. Namely the songs First Breath After Coma and Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean.

In A Gada Da Vida

It kind of is, i dunno, the drums are just great.

Aphex Twin's normal stuff isn't really trippy, but I've listened to Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 while on some pretty mindbending substances and I promise it's trippy as balls.

Boards of Canada, which I love, definitely qualify; as does Third Eye, though I'd be a bit scared to listen to it on drugs, probably scare me a little. The Tool video for Parabol and Parabola is trippy as hell but the song isn't really.

Pink Floyd I usually just listen to on drugs and damn, that shit is trippy. Lots of psytrance is too... and especially Hendrix. All the Hendrix songs get weird as hell when you're on something, there's all kinds of whispers in the background and to be honest the lyrics make much more sense while under some influence.

When I trip I generally listen to Phish, Boards of Canada, Jimi Hendrix, and stuff like that.

Pink Floyd when they had Syd Barrat.

Jimi Hendrix in general.

We have some winners :D

Satisfaction sounded trippy when I first heard it, but it's novelty has kinda worn off since. Memoribilia is trippy as ****, though.

Just listened to Third Eye. Doesn't sound all that trippy, although it does sound very cool.

led zeppelin's - whole lotta love ( their live at the BBC version was even more cool)

PEACE

Mikey:D

Pink Floyd, Tool, etc etc

'The End' by the Doors is daaamn trippy.

EDIT: The random function on my iPod just threw some Moby at me, which was pretty trippy too.

My selection. Stars indicate level of trippiness :imu:

Boards of Canada
Amo Bishop Roden ****
In A Beautiful Place in the Country ***

Four Tet
My Angel Rocks Back and Forth ****
Unspoken ****
She Moves She **
Spirit Fingers ***
As Serious As Your Life **
And They All Look Broken Hearted ***

Lemon Jelly
Experiment No.6 ***
The Curse of Ka'Zar **

Acid Mothers Temple (very trippy)
It's Nice to Hear Your Voice **** [10:42]
Planet Crazy Gold **** [10:42]
Virginal Plane ***** [26:02]

I have heard another one which I've just managed to track down on Google. The artist is a japanese guy called Merzbow and it's effectively white noise experimentation. You absolutely cannot listen to it sober or you won't find it truly enjoyable. The disc I listened to is called 'Frog' and can be found here. You won't be disappointed.

So, anyone else agree with (or has otherwise listened to) the tracks I recommended? Just out of interest.

Butthole Surfers - Dust Devil.

The guitar solo at the end is unreal. It has like a two second delay that repeats 4 times and the whole solo goes for like 3 minutes chock full of whammy bar action. Third Eye doesn't even come close.

Checking them out now.

Holy shite you have 1,337 posts

The Door to this House Remains Open by the Super Furry Animals is kinda trippy, I guess
All We Have Is Now by the Flaming Lips is similarly gentle... it's in the lyrics

...and watching that flash clip makes me want to, ahem, experiment a bit more with my life. :(

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane / Born Under a Bad Sign by Cream

Funny colors in my Mushroom Trails - Atmosphere

Chronic - Eligh

the names are self explanatory.

If you guys want some trip songs, you should listen to The Orb. They've got some of the strangest music.

My favourite: LSD by Infected Mushroom. And anything by Cypress Hill or Jimi Hendrix.

Lostprophets - Sway..
I don't know.. I suppose this isn't considered a trippy song by most people, but it is weird.
From the point of view you are listening, it makes you feel like you are in a hospital room dieing, the doctor is saying he won't lie to you, and you hear the heart beat monitor going off. At the end, there is a long silence, then a flatline on the heart beat monitor.

The whole album Lark's Tongues in Aspic - King Crimson.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to bump this.

Hunted By a Freak by Mogwai is my official "get stoned and think about floating through outer-space" song.

Guys, Guys.......welcome to the machine......whoa
