Greetings all,

I really look forward to retirement for the sole reason that I will have the rest of my life to devote to fishing. It does not matter if I get skunked or if I max out. I just enjoy being out there. Matching wits with the fish. So it was with some degree of excitement that I got the game:

"Bass Pro Shops Trophy Bass 2007"

After playing the game for around 15 minutes, I came to the sad realization that Trophy Bass 2007 is one of those games that could have been great. Instead the game provided less fun than going to the dentist to have a root canal.

Poor Graphics, & even worse game-play, pretty much kills this game.

Bass Pro Shops?, the most repsected name in fishing, has teamed up with Vivendi Games to deliver the 6th version of the all time best-selling fishing series - Trophy Bass?. With stunning realism, beautiful visuals and heart pumping gameplay - this is the most entertaining interactive fishing experience yet.

* Features 7 different Bass Tournaments on 13 world-renowed lakes and reservoirs for a total of 91 unique fishing competitions.

* Hook, fight and reel in some of the biggest Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye and Northern Pike!

* Drive the fastest authentic Nitro? boats from Tracker? Marine, jump some ramps to find the next honey hole.

* Test your skills in the casting competition and your driving skills in the boat races on each lake.

The physics of this game are horrible. Jumping the ramps to find new fishing holes are laughable at best. If you don't hit the ramps just right, your boat will bounce back off the rocks. Yes, I said bounce. As for the boat races, i'll pass.

Once you do find that sweet spot (you have to guess where the fish are, I could not find and so get the fish finder to work) More times than not, you'll see the fish through the water, only to cast and then find that there is nothing there.

All is not a total waste though. Once you do find your spot, you get to pick your tackle & choice of bait, though you are rather limited here, from what I was able to see. Perhaps as you progress through the campaign you unlock new content. Anyways, after you have chosen your setup, you can set the drag, type of line & reel speed. A small graph on-screen shows how much strain the fish is putting on the line. You watch that the whole time fishing & so don't actually get to watch the game.

After you choose the way to cast, you hold down the mouse button to charge the cast power meter, once you let go, the player on the boat (you) casts. Soon as the "bait" hits the water, you are treated to an underwater cam of a very generic & sparce aquatic world. The bottom is always flat with 2D vegitation. Your lure cannot get snagged & several times as I was reeling in a "Monster Fish", my line would go through the boat. Often times right through the middle. In other words really bad clipping.

A nice feature, the under water cam follows the fish as you try to reel him in. Again, too bad you are stuck watching the line strain meter instead of the screen. Once you do land the fish, you are treated to a horrible animation of your character bending down to grab the fish. As the fish flaps, the water spray is 2D. No matter the size of the catch, your character has the personality of a stump.

Bottom line is, Trophy Bass 2007 is obviously no substitute for the real thing. Trophy Bass 2007 is for the most part a waste of money & time. The game minesweeper that comes with Windows is more fun... ok so maybe it isn't, but it's close.

I HATE it when a game doctors a Screen shot to make it look better than it actually is. The screen shots look nothing like the game actually does ingame.

The first couple of Trophy Bass games were excellent, disappointing to hear that this one's a shitty budget title.

Thats what I have heard, about the earlier version of the game being fun, but this was the first in the series that I had tried. Not a good first impression let me tell you. Of course it might just be me. Someone else here might have the game and think it's the second coming as far as PC games go..
