so, with the rising gas prices, many people aren't buying suv's and trucks. I've already seen 3 separate news stories about dealers and how NO ONE is buying them.

So what're they gonna do, just scrap them all? Im personally glad, i hated seen retards driving around huge ass trucks/suv's only to have NOTHING in the back of the truck and like 2 kids in their suv's.

Like just stick to a van or something. Then they have nerve to complain about gas prices like **** off now.

And if you're gonna say "oh well it's their life what does it matter to you what they drive" well let me tell you that since the majority of the reason ( i know there are SEVERAL factors) of why gas prices are so high now is because supply and demand. We are demanding more than the supply is coming out. Why? Well let's see you got millions of jackasses who drive huge trucks, SUV's and hummers that DON'T NEED THEM!!!

They're the ones who are wasting hte gas and always demanding for more.

So in conclusion, im glad trucks n suv sales are plummeting and i hope they continue to do so

That's really strange because I was just thinking im glad trucks n suv sales are plummeting and i hope they continue to do so.

Giant gas guzzling cars seems to be a staple of American culture, a staple that is being forced to change by market forces. Which is a good thing, obviously, efficiency helps more people than inefficiency.
Maybe it would have been nice if it was a choice rather than waiting until it became a necessity but it's not always easy for individuals to see how their actions (along with similar actions by others) as part of the whole affect the whole.

No, rural area people need trucks as there's no city garbage collectors out in the boonies. We have to haul our own garbage (At least in American rural communities) and frankly, I'd hate to haul stuff like this in a closed van or car. SUVs on the other hand I can live without though. There's really no reason why anyone should need an SUV. You wanna go mountain climbing? Use pit-and-pat.

smaller trucks also work good enough.

So do larger trucks so as long as you don't rev up the RPMs. How small are you talking? Are stock Ford F-150s considered small enough? Or do you mean Ranger/S-10 small?

I was under the impression we were basically talking about all trucks.

BTW, gas guzzling vehicles hardly contributed to the soaring gas prices as much as Corporate America's (including all the oil tycoon's) shitty business practices.

That's funny, because along side you and Akira, I too was just thinking im glad trucks n suv sales are plummeting and i hope they continue to do so.

Jeeps (That's, SUVs) used to be in fashon but now it's fashonable to care about the environment so they're going out.

I was under the impression that SUVs are still massively popular over there. Can't walk 10 feet without seeing one in Ohio at least.

It's true that in some places you need a truck to get by, but the problem is people in the suburbs buying massive SUV's and trucks either to look cool and feel powerful, or to haul children.

GM will be shutting down an assembly plant in my neck of the woods because no one is buying suvs/light trucks ..the plant was the main assembly plant for an upcoming suv ..a loss of 1200 jobs plus 3 times that in auxiliary market that supports the auto industry in that city

as much as I hate gas guzzling monstrosites hogging up the road the collapse of the big truck/mini van/suv market could further spiral us into a recession ..they should have seen this coming and adjusted their business plan to cope with the shifting marketplace ..this just leaves them open to further competition from overseas markets ..the US auto industry is at a turning point ..at this point it's either sink or swim and as far as I'm concerned all I've seen of late is sinking

My friend has a king ranch F250 diesel, and he uses it to haul his offshore fishing boat, as well as move everything he owns every 9 months between locations (still in a dorm). An f150 or smaller isn't going to haul his boat and he can't afford to buy a prius so he can drive that when he isn't hauling stuff. Just know that some of these truck owners do need their trucks, even if they aren't hauling a boat, a load of wood, and 4 people around all the time.

Besides, cars get almost equally as bad mpg. My audi gets 20mpg, my friends mini probably gets worse (he drives it hard), his dad owns 2 v8 mercedes that both average around 16mpg, stern's rx8 gets like 18mpg, and the list goes on. Think of all the people who drive their z06, 911, m5, rs6, or Bentley to work just because they want people to know their rich; they could easily afford a corolla to commute in.

I don't hate SUV's for their gas mileage. I hate them for their size/performance and generally the reasons why people by them; i.e. status symbol, 'bigger is safer!', etc. Besides, gas prices are rising simply because they can. Look at a graph of gas price and profits for exxon mobile. Coincidentally they both are rising to 'highest ever'. If oil was so hard to find or drill for or manufacturing now, then as gas prices rose...profits would stay the same, because more of the price of gas would be spent towards drilling/locating/manufacturing oil.

When I was in the USA I counted that two out of the thousands of trucks I saw during my stay actually had stuff in the back.
I doubt the proportion of people who need jeeps/vans is significantly higher than over here, but the difference in how many are actually on the roads is immense.

stern's rx8 gets like 18mpg, .

huh? I have a 2004 honda civic and a 2007 pontiac torrent ..I used to have a subaru forrester but gave that up cuz ir was too small for my family needs

the civic gets between 30-35mpg and the torrent gets about 20 mpg ..I use the civic mostly

the problem with cars not having good gas mileage on that list is that everyone in your circle drives cars they dont need ..my cars are strictly utlitarian ..I dont care about performance cars or cars made to impress not so bright women ..I use them to get from point A to Point B and rarely anything else

aslo about no suv in europe ..gas is far more expensive, and prices are much higher in europe for the same cars in the US because the demand isnt high for large vehicles like it is in the US ..plus the infrastructure doesnt support large vehicles like it does in north america ..I cant imagine driving a hulking monstrosity like a Suburban in Spain's mountainous north

CyberPitz wants one. I thought he had a couple of RX7 2's though

cars need to be lighter, lighter, lighter. so much lighter. I can go through almost any car and remove over 1000 pounds of needless weight. The manufactures are still making shit like heated seats. It pisses me off like you probably just couldn't understand.

this extra weight removal will give about 10 MPG gas increase. so if your MPG is 30, it will now be 40. It will also make it seem like it has about 50 more HP, and it will stop incredibly fast, it will get up hills easier, and take turns better

Yes, my car is not fuel efficient, what's this have to do with trucks/suvs?

I can't wait for the day the Direct Injected Rotary comes out. That thing is gonna be a godsend to the MPG of the rotary.

And Virus is right, to an extent. I sold one of my RX7's, and have another 84 GSL-SE that has a ported engine, so it gets horrid mpg...but it's not a DD, so yay. I use my RX-8 for DDs

what is a DD? damn diesel? some engine code? Dungeons and Dragons? lol

A Lot of people just seem to act like only trucks and SUVs get 20 or sub-20 mpg, I was just using the rx8 as one of my examples.

but to be fair the rx8 doesnt carry 2 adults + 2 kids + 2 baby chairs, a set of golfclubs + bag, a mall stroller, a bigger stroller for outings, a nursing bag, a diaper changing fold away table (trust me you need one), a gym bag with a change of clothes for mom and dad (trust me you need it), toys dvd players, dvds, music cds, ds bag, a cooler for bottle + snacks + bottles of water, cleanig supplies etc etc etc ..also aspirin

ah rite. Then you're post is extremely valid. Though, the funny thing is, I'm coming from 13ish MPG with my untuned RX-7, so 18 is a godsend :p

@ Stern: Engine been in production for, what over a hundred years? vs an engine being in production for 40. In 40 years, I'm sure the Rotary will be on par with other engines in terms of performance/fuel economy.

So get rid of the damn boat. It's an unneeded luxury. Consumers will have to make many such concessions as gas prices rise.

His family has owned one of the larger refractory plants for over 2 decades. Their lake house is larger than my house and their beach house is almost as big. They aren't exactly hurting for gas money.

stern are you talking about the plant closing down in Oshawa?

All i'm saying is that i know there are several thousands of people who do need the big pick up trucks. But as someone else said, there really isn't any point to an SUV...they're incredibly pointless if you really look at it. Hybrids are expensive to purchase and i'm sure that if they break down it'll cost a fortune to repair.

I'm just sick and tired of people who purchase trucks and suv's but drive them like a civic and then complain about it costing $100+ to fill up. Why not save fuel and go for a smaller car??

Agreed, people who drive bad MPG vehicles then complain about gas are retarded, and quite oxymoronish.

That's why I try not to complain D:

My 92' Ford Festiva gets 38 miles to a gallon. Sure, it's not a sexy car, but I'll laughing all the way to the bank one day baby! :smoking:

Too bad for those suckers paying an arm and an leg for for more luxurious cars that have like V8s and shit. Plus the cost of insurance of cars nowadays to top it off.

Does that mean it isn't an unneeded luxury?
