Anyone watching this on HBO?
I think it's pretty decent so far.

Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called Tru Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have made their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar 'Merlotte's' which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

It's supposed to have a lot more than just vampires running around, looking forward to what they think up. :D

Intro

wow, that actually looks really good O_O

never thought I'd say that about a show about vampires... too bad it's only on HBO though.

I actually heard that this was awful. I need to watch it for myself though to be sure. The only thing I can be sure of is that Six Feet Under is a TOUGH act to follow. That show was one of the few shows that achieved near-perfection in everything it did.

That looks kickass, also tell me why six feet under was so good?

watched the first 2 episodes. Has potential, but I'm not sure they know where they are going with it, and pretty much all the characters are heart on sleeve types (it sure isn't Deadwood or the Wire). All I can honestly say about it is that Anna Paquin is one seriously gappy toothed girl.

Six Feet Under it is not. It's not even playing the same sport.

It's not really even that good, which is very disappointing seeing as it comes from Alan Ball. But I'll watch some more and let it play it.

I can't believe there aren't more of you talking about this show. It's quite good and has excellent writing.

I just saw the latest episode and I can't wait for another episode already.

Yeah It's pretty cool. Im about to watch the newest episode.

I like the show been watching from day one. The show after this is pretty good to "Big"

yeah, they've really been building up to some epic moments which I can't wait to see

Really? I should get back into it then.
Sort of lost interest after the first few episodes.

I just started watching this; seen 4 episodes so far.

Seems like a good show, as I want to see more, though there are some facepalm moments.

For example (minor spoiler, 1st episode):
Jason thought he strangled Maudette and he just acted like nothing happened - dropped by his grandma, phoned the other girl to arrange some sex... WTF? Only after the police talked to him and it turned out he didn't kill her, he was shaken.

Also, I like Compton's character, but all the non-mainstream vampires so far seem lame, like villains from B movies.

I honestly find it kind of stupid, but I guess that's what get for watching random episodes several seasons without much interest.

you can't just watch random episodes and expect it to be good. All of each episode tells the overall story unlike most shows which only have like a couple minutes of overarching story.

Yeah the story telling is pretty cool. I like how they pretty much just throws you in where the last episode ended.

I'm liking it atm. It's not Shakespeare, but the characters are interesting, and the plot intriguing enough to keep me watching.

I like how the blond church lady uses Jesus to justify anything and everything lol

Godric is cool. I hope they don't kill him off any time soon.

newest episode was pretty interesting.

I'm curious how they resolve the jessica situation lol

I like Godric as well, he's above all those lame savage vampires.

I wonder how this bomb situation will play out. The previous cliffhanger with Jason being shot was pretty obvious for me, but this one's tough. Maybe someone will sacrifice himself and jump in front of the guy to minimize casualties. Or the bomb won't go off at all.

I was just thinking that jason/sookie could get the silver off of him and then one of the vamps could run away really fast with it and toss it somwhere

BTW, I visited some True Blood forum as well as read some comments elsewhere and it seems that a lot of people (women mostly I assume) are going apeshit over Eric.

"Like OMG he's so hot, every episode with Eric in it is my fave, GTFO Bill, Eric/Sookie OH MAI GAWD yes!"

I really don't see what the fuss is all about. I mean, I guess he is fine looking to women, but WTF, seems like to a lot of people the series revolve around him. And he annoys me slightly with this constant bored expression and mannerisms.

Good show, I just watched the first season in one go. I admit, the concept didn't appeal to me that much at first but once I started watching it grew on me. The excellent writing and suspension in the story line makes up for its occasional flaws.

I think I'll wait till season 2's finished and then pull another marathon-watch. :)

I did a season 1 marathon after 2 started to catch up and remember what happened.

I don't think I could wait till the whole season was out before starting again.

It's hard, but I'll try to look for other good shows meanwhile. It's so much more satisfying in the end to watch em all in one go.
Speaking of marathon-viewings, I'm actually considering re-watching all 5 seasons of Lost before season 6 starts. Mostly to catch up on details I probably didn't pay too much attention at on first viewing, seeing as there are a shitload of references to previous episodes in Lost.

yeah, I should do that as well, it's been quite awhile since I've seen the first couple seasons.

goddammit, now I have to wait a year to see the resolution to the season 2 finale cliffhanger.

The cliffhangers sucked. And Im dissapointed with the finale.

I thought it was a weak end to an awesome season. Sure, I want more true blood, but the cliffhangers characters where left in just feelt unintressting. And pretty much 50% of that episode where people just bitching over Marry-anne. Also, Ball could stop trying to force all his gay agenda that'd be great.
I don't have much against a homo, but im getting tired of seeing him making the vampires out to be "the fangs" in ballverse. Just getting abit old that's all.

Not the greatest of endings for sure (though personally I thought Michelle Forbes was great), but they teased some exciting prospects for next season. Given Bill was taken by someone with gloves I'm thinking Eric or his Fangoria minions are involved.

I didn't notice the gloves, but I assumed it was in Eric in some form anyways.
Some folks at Imdb are under the impression that werewolfs are going to be a part of season 3. That's sounds cool. Maybe it's Sams real parents.

The finale was a bit meh. Generally I felt that the last few episodes were rather weak and I was tired of some maenad stealing the show.

Meh, Sam and maybe Eric are the only characters I like on this show. I hope Eric ****ing kills Bill. And I know Sookie is the main character and all but she's nigh on intolerable ... which is only made worse by the fact that every straight male on the show except for her brother seems to be madly in love with her.

I can kinda handle the hammy, cheesy style ... but that's no excuse for characters I just don't like. Nevertheless ... I've kept watching it.

Still can't believe this is from the same guy who made Six Feet Under and American Beauty.

And isn't the whole social message and parallel to gay rights kinda undercut by the fact that these vampires do seem to be inherently violent, bloodthirsty animals ... and that it takes a lot of work on their part not to be that way?

I thought the last 2 or 3 episodes before the finale were awful. Like, terrible. Sookie's dramatic zoom-in scream, and the bill's vampire child screaming were just some of the worst acted and directed shots ive seen ever. Even B movies do better than that.

The finale wasnt bad though. And the rest of the season I thought was better than the first. I hope they do a lot more with the vampire politics in the next episode, because I agree with unfocused. The Maenad stole the show, and she wasnt a terribly compelling storyline. Predictable, drawn out, and not very engaging really.
