trying to make my first mod

i was following the make your first mod tutorial at the source sdk site, and when i went to "impulse 101" and load a level there wern't and levels i got this error in the dev console

GetAllManifestFiles: Unable to load maplist.txt
execing valve.rc
material "vgui/steam/games/icon_hl2mp" not found
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/steam/games/icon_hl2mp
material "vgui/servers/icon_secure_deny" not found

do i have to place the maps in manually or what am i doing wrong.

never mind i had to add a txt file called map list and add a map and then load it maually.
