Maybe some people have managed their own lives first, and they play the sims because they know its a game and just for fun for a few hours :)

i doubt ill buy this one.

Ditto, just got Morrowind and that has all the Sims stuff I need, you can't save the world in The Sims, so badaboom.

I don't understand the concept. Sure, you can say its just a game, but its a game thats pretty pointless if you ask me. I mean, I play HL because I can't fight aliens in a secret research facility in my real life. Everything in the sims I could probably do if I really wanted (with the exception of magic).

I mean, what the hell can you do anyway? You play house? "Oh noes! I have to eat some food now, then maybe I'll go take a bath." The strategy and action is amazing.

Yeah, its that.. But you can screw about in ways you wouldn't normally be able to do. And there's some fascination with watching or controling other people's lives, be they real or digital

Survivor

Shipwreak

Big Brother

coronation street

Emmerdale

Eastenders

Neighbours

etc. and so on

Yeah it is fun watching others people lives(or sims) go to hell :)

All of those shows are just as pathetic as the sims. :P

The Surreal life is pretty good on VH1, watching washed up stars in a house is alot better than normal people.

Perhaps so, but its big money. Just like most console games are pathetic, its still good business right now.

Note the key word: Surreal.

The Sims can be surreal, it has Death that you can bargin with. Potions you can make, Drew Carey, exploding gnomes. Mad scientists. and all manner of inhuman tortures, like seeing what someone would do with no windows, doors, toilet or shower but plenty of food.

Of course, reality shows are cheap to make, addicting to viewers and are very popular. The same could be said about tetris. Does it have your game of the year vote?

Tetris was great fun, very addictive and cool music until some dick thought it would make a good dance track lol, but it wasn't really a reality show :)

But it uses the same formula. But anyway, more on topic: the sims 2 defiantly has a lot of mass appeal going for it. Perhaps this could lead people into looking at the PC as a good gaming platform? That would be nice.

Edit: Oh, and I liked tetris too, but that dosent mean its a great game. Its just one of the first games.

Sims2 should be lots more fun, I don't know all that much about it. I've avoided it for the most part because I remember how horribly addictive the first one was (and SimCity, SimAnt, SimEarth, SimTower and so on) looks like it has all the things people wanted in the first though. I think I'll end up getting it, even if its just for the sake of having something other than Doom that possibly takes advantage of newer tech :)

I'm gonna try and seduce the maid and if she rejects me, I'll lock her in the closet. :naughty:

In the game of course...

Looks like coolness. I couldn't get into it....same way I couldn't get into Simcity, etc. I may attempt this new one, but I don't think I'll like it, again. I don't learn my lessons well.

It's gonna be another EA money horde, but it's a good game if it's your cup of tea.
