First, download WindowBlinds, a Windows skinning utility.

Then, download the newest Longhorn theme, Longhorn Slate 4051.

If you have windows media player 10, use it in skin mode and choose the compact skin, it matches the new Longhorn one. Get WMP 10 from microsoft.com

Download SmartBarXP, it's a freeware utility that replicates the new sidebar in Longhorn, includes quicklaunch, new clock, a built in music player exactly like WMP9, and an internet search bar. It's nice.

Longhorn's Window's File System will be able to scan your system for a file in seconds because of it's new database structure. But you can get that now, it's called dtSearch.

I didn't get dtSearch so I can't say whether I like it, but sounds good. Anyway, that's it. And the Longhorn skin comes with a new background.

And you posted this because?

Really, I don't see the point? Did someone request it?

Cannot download the Longhorn GUI anyway off that poor database

No, I just thought it was cool. Who cares? I thought maybe some people here would be interested in it, it gives you the features of Longhorn.

Here is an installer that requires no extra programs.
I have it applied right now it is basicly a skin/theme change. It's nice though.

it is pretty nice, im keeping it. thanks for the link asus.

By the way, the theme I used was WinHEC I believe.

Now im excited about longhorn again. :bounce: :bounce:

Yeah it's pretty cool, the Smartbar's nice, I love the media player on it. But that link you gave, a lot of people have had problems with it when running SP2.

I thought one of the major features of longhorn was a new way of handling internet. Could be wrong as it has been a while since I read up on longhorn but I thought that and the new file system were the only real significant changes. No offense but this just seems kinda.. superficial.

No im sure they have so more changes. I remeber seeing some screenshots, where there was a different menu system instead of File Edit, and View. But I dont know if it was a hoax or not.

Im kinda getting bored with the File and edit buttons. But they work great. Everytime I try a new windows skin I always go back to Xp just because It has the best feel to it. Why fix a thing that isnt broke. Im going to see if I can find that screen shot again.

Anyways I got a question Does anyone know if that smartbarxp is the one microsoft released? I know microsoft released a beta for the one thatgoing to be in longhorn but I cant find it and smartbarxp looks very close to the pictures I have seen of the microsoft one.

Dear God that's what Longhorn is going to look like?!

Wow....gradients!

Some people have complained when using Service Pack 2 that it f***ed up their Windows.

hey asus, can what you provide in that link be uninstalled? I was gonna get it but was worried about system probs

I'm sure it can be uninstalled mash.

hmm..is it hard or tricky to un-install?
because even tho i want a new and nice theme.. i do not want to get into something which would force me to format my PC or..well something along those lines.

The same EXE used to install is also a menu to change the setup or uninstall. It sets it back to XP default settings I believe.
