Turning Autosave off

I know I've seen in in another thread somewhere but can't find it now. So can anyone help me? I'm trying to find a way to stop HL2 from Autosaving because I think it's causing some of my audio/graphics problems. Any help will be appreciated!!

Go into hl2 folder
find save folder and open
make the 4 folders with auto save in them read only(right click/properties)

Dont forget to quicksave
