Tweaking 56k guide

-= Intro =- For windows XP
Ive spent all day tweaking my modem and i got my ping from 150
to 125+ it goes up and down. this guide will help you get a lower ping.

-= How to do it =-
go to start > Control pannel > Network connections >
then highlight ur connection right click then go to propeties.

1.untick "use dialing rules"

2.click configure put max speed to "230400" also make sure that
"enable hardware flow" control is ticked and "modem error control"
and "enable modem compression".

Go to networking
and untick everything apart from "internet protocal (tcp/ip)"
and remove "QoS packet scheduler" (what i mean as remove is uninstall) then click on "internet protocal (tcp/ip)" and go to properties then advanced untick "use IP header compression"
then press on "Wins" at the top then untick "enable LMHOSTS lookup" and tick "disable netbios over tcp/ip" then press OK

before you change the Values in the registy note them down.

Open up regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace, find the key named {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}. Right click on it and delete it.

navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProv ider

then change
Class - 1
DnsPriority - 1
HostsPriority - 1
LocalPriority - 1
NetbtPriority - 1

5.
go to start >control panel>phone and modem options>
go to "advanced tab"
then remove all of them. there are 3 which cant be removed so leave them. If you have problems after removing these then u can add them back by pressing "add" then press OK.

then download somthing called Cyber Tweak
then optimise the 56k. what this software does is sets some stuff in the registry like maxMTU etc. saves you doing it.

then restart computer and see if it has made a change.

It really depends on what Modem you have.
i have Zoom PCI v92 voice faxmodem. if u have a winmodem. upgrade it to a better one because they just suck and u wont be able to optimize that much.

if i find any more tweaks il edit this post.

Also make sure your computer is clean from spyware and adware etc. download these software to get rid of them.

Spy Sweeper (you have 30day trial but u can still get rid of your spyware)

ad-aware SE (gets rid of adware)

use Mozilla firefox as your browser it is much better than IE

thanks. lol i did this because i know how it feels to have a high ping
and ive seen loads of people with high pings wondering how i got mine so slow. so i posted this. I hope it stays up so more people can read it. i also hope that it will get there ping lower.

I've only done half of what you said so far, so far no ping reduction. My connection speed says 16.8Kbps, thought it still runs\connects the same. So far webpages seem to work alot better.
Tell ya any improvments once im done.

that aint normal connecting at that speed! :S
i connect at 49kb (when i dial up) you must have spyware or adware
download Microsoft anti spyware beta and ad aware.

Oki if you connect at 16.8kbs then that is strange.
What modem do you have?
have you got a Anti virus, if so which one?

if you dont have an anti virus i recommend you download
AVG Free anti virus

also i recommend you downloading
TuneUp Utilities 2004 with this software you should scan the registry and clean that up also it has a Internet optimizer. which is also very good tool. i dont know what it does but it some how optimizes your internet some other way.

and this
Microsoft anti spyware BETA as long as you have a VALID version of windows then you can have this, its free and its good.

It's ok Darkmaster, I have the microsoft things etc..
But it connects at that speed, but it connects the same(I remember the sounds of when it connects...). It also dosn't go slower so it does not bother me. I use to connect at 48.8 - 50.6Kbps.
I have a U.S. Robotics 3Com Fax Modem.

I experinced no ping reduction really at all. My browsing seems a bit smoother but, actually playing....no not really. Stays around 200 - 250 overall like before.

So whatever.
I have enough adware protections. I have the microsoft one and adaware. Both work dandy, I've been using firefox for....quite some time now...

Well whatever.
