Note the screens with 'Borealis' and the snow. Thanks to someone at Steampowered for that.

Apparantly, i dont have permission. Do I have ask nicely?

Its on low settings iv seen other screenshots with some nice texture work. I wouldnt worry about it.

Oh my God, the Borealis is back! Thanks Samon!

Technically not back since you never had it in the first place, but there we go :p

Valve said in Raising the Bar they'd get back to it, simply because they didn't have a place for it in Half-life 2. I guess that goes for any design they don't feel is shit, and simply needs to be put aside until they can make good use of it. No point cramming them all into one game when it affects pace.

I don't suppose anyone here knows what borealis means, except for the Northern Lights of course, do they? I also notice a bullet hole under one of the monitors. Which probably means absolutely nothing.

...so I take it that Alyx survives the train wreck? Also, pic number 2 definitely is worthy of a caption contest.

The Borealis (also known as Hyperborea) is the ship (technically a science icebreaker) from pre-release Half-Life 2 media. There is a playable version in the leaked Half-Life 2.

THANK GOD SOME NEW MEDIA! My craving has been reduced... slightly. Nice screenshots though. And can someone tell me what Borealis is please?

The Borealis was an ice-locked ship that had a fair few rules in many early Half-life 2 drafts; taking the player to the Arctic being one of them, as well as it being in the opening. For story, pace and gameplay issues it was put aside to help further stream the game.

Thanks. So this new information is kind of confirmation of Episode Three being set in the Arctic. I don't see how this would work gameplay-wise; you know, with the desert of boring flat ice and all.

So the Kraken Base is the Portal Base?

Portal base?

The Arctic is a pretty beautiful place. Snow is an absolute atmosphere must.

Naw, I don't think that has anything to do with the Mossman Project thing. Aperture is Gman.

I doubt it's confirmation, any more than the video from Mossman was confirmation. There's loads of other things they could do with it other than its original purpose of taking people to the Arctic. Especially if it's ice-locked. Maybe the ship is the project, or maybe they've set up a base there.
I expect that at least part of Ep3 will be in the Arctic, though.

But the coordinates from the official site of Portal showing somewhere in the artic.

rea... Borealis, I should have known, dammit

Anyway... **** YES

Awesome screens it looks like to me in the second screen that there will have to be a very big decision that Eli will have to make since he is the resistance leader and all.
Still no screens of Barney though starting to look bad for his case.

Eli new clothes! At last someone had time to change clothes :D and Alyx covered in blood.. a bit. The second picture is AWESOME.

sorry am i missing something big in those screenshots? where does it say its the borealis?

Awesuuuum.

The second picture, look at the third TV screen with the letters "REA". Borealis.

You know I wonder if Magnusson is in that scene in the second screen of course if he is then Valve just hid him so no one would see him yet but if he isn't wonder where he would be at that moment hopefully white forest will be more huger than Black Mesa East where we can actually explore a little before any action begins.

I don't forsee Portal and Half-Life being tied together in the next two episodes; if anything I think it'd be possible to speculate on it as we are now but I can't see Valve putting anything concrete out about their relationship.

I hope we actually get to visit the Borealis, not just see things happening there on video monitors. That and the wastelands are my two favorite removed sections from Raising the Bar.

It would be funny if in the second screen Eli is actually mad at Magnusson for being a jerk maybe saying something like Mossman won't survive and getting Eli angry therefore maybe Alyx and Kleiner are holding Eli back from taking a whack at him.

We still have the wasteland though don't we? It's just now it's an abandoned countryside. I thought the old wasteland was a really generic and boring post apocalyptic type of thing that was just so stale. /2 cents We apparently learn more about Portal in EP2 than we do in Portal itself. So, I'm going to guess it has something to do with the Gman.

Polaris that concept looks awesome. <3 snow.

I'm actually glad they cut the Borealis. I hope we won't visit it anytime soon. I just don't think it will be an interesting place. And if we do visit it, it probably won't be filled with Combine soldiers and stalkers.

Nice screens though!

Yeah, the old wasteland was just too Mad Max-like for me. As for the screenshots, well, it looks as if Alyx will be joining us in the chopper battle, however that works. In the second one, you can see a B and an O in the center screen, pretty much confirming that it's Borealis.

But why is that bullet hole pointing straight at Eli? Dun, dun DUN!

And Alyx really needs a shower, and a change of clothes. Barney escaped the City 17 explosion, so I'll bet he got it.

Maybe Magnusson murders Eli, and then later in the game, Alyx and Gordon uses helicopter to land on the Borealis.

commas, use them.

i hope we get to visit the borealis. on the note of content removed from the game, got any pictures of the old wasteland? i never picked up raising the bar, mostly due to financial reasons... and lazy reasons.

Maybe Magnusson is working for the G-man and murders Eli.
