Two Spore Expansion Packs Announced

New parts and paint...Definitely seems like this could be the Sims all over again.
 
Yeah the first one sounds like an excuse to drain peoples money (what isn't today in gaming?), but they are actually adding new gameplay elements in the second expansion... which could be good.

I read that they could have included all this shit and like the next 4 expansion packs but EA wanted them to cut them for the cash money cash.
 
I remember the first time I played the Sims 2 ... it felt like there were giant COMING SOON signs everywhere. After playing the original and its expansions it was clear they cut and omitted a lot of features. I can't stand that. It makes me feel ripped off, which isn't good business.

With Spore I didn't have that same feeling (though there were plenty of other bad ones) because I didn't know fully what to expect going in, but I'm sure the business model was the same. Only problem is I don't see what they can really enhance besides the Space stage unless it comprehensively improves the whole package ... who's going to pay $20-30 for an extra stage that takes maybe an hour to complete? Or improves one of the existing stages that in retrospect don't make up all that much of the game? Spore doesn't seem as well suited to the expansion formula as the Sims ... maybe if the game was more of a cohesive whole instead of a bunch of minigames it'd be different.

Yes, Spore was meant to be the Sims for a new generation. Forget evolutionary gameplay, just give the players some new clothes and colors and body parts and doll playing. Best disappointment ever. Never trust the hype.
 
Wow, first SC3 in three parts, now this?

Ugh.
 
I think Valve is now officially the last castle of decent PC game developers.
 
The shoddy release of Spore confirmed to me that Maxis had been broken by EA a long time ago.



At least there was still some vision left in there to think up the concept of Spore to begin with.

This wasn't a surprise though, it's a MAXIS game and they're EA's bitch now so, yeah... the milking was expected.
****ing pathetic excuse for a first 'expansion' though. :|
