I own the standard package of HL2 and played Episode 1 at my friend's house so I never bought it - it is now $9.95 so I figured I might as well buy it now. I notice Ep:1 comes with a copy of HL2 Deathmatch, which I already own. As I understand it, the only way I can use both Deathmatch accounts at the same time is if I create a new Steam account and purchase Ep:1 with that new account, is that true?

Also, if I do make two Steam accounts with each having HL2 Deathmatch, can I use online mods like CTF or Dystopia with both accounts, or does that require having two versions of the single player game?

That is what I did, I've got Half-Life 2 on my primary Steam account and Episode One on a secondary. So yes, that gave me two playable copies of HL2 Deathmatch, not that I really play it. Every HL2 mod I've tried has worked on my secondary, even ones that use HL2 levels (eg Follow Freeman). This is because Mods only require "Source SDK Base" (at least in theory) which does come with Episode One. If you like I can make sure Dystopia works on my secondary Steam account when I get home.

Mmmm, ok, I'll do it tommorow - I am too tired to do it now.

HL2 Multiplayer pack owners and HL?DM Pro Server adminitrators : read this

Hi all,

For a few months now, we've received lots of messages from HL2 Multiplayer Pack owners experiencing a connection problem when connecting to an HL2DM Pro server.

The Steam error message is :
"Disconnect: This Steam account does not own this game. Please login to the correct Steam account."

This error does not occure exclusively with HL?DM Pro. Other source mods such as HL?CTF or Sourceforts do have the same problem too.

Last week, we've worked closely with VALVe to make the root cause analysis of this problem and it turned out that this is an engine problem. We won't detail exactly the source of the problem in here but VALVe is paying attention to this bug and shall fix it in a the next version of the engine. So stay tuned with the next Steam engine's update.
We'd like to thank Mike Durand from VALVe Software for his effective support during the last week.

Workaround :
In the meantime, you can find below a workaround suggested by Mike that all server owners can implement till the engine is updated. The solution is server side only which means that if you experience this bug in a server, then you must contact the server's administrator and let him know how to proceed (it's very easy and quick). He's gonna have to :

* Create a text file called "steam.inf" and put only the following line in it:
appID=320
* Place this file in the same directory as the gameinfo.txt in the server

That's it !!!

Thanks again Mike.

I saw this a while back, might be of some use to you. :)

Ok

My testing has finished. I uninstalled everything on my secondary Steam account so that only "Source SDK" and "Source SDK Base" was left. I installed any mods I had floating around and this was the result.

Code:
[B]Mod Needs[/B]
______________________________________
Dysopia SDK Base
Eternal Silence SDK Base
Exite HL2 Deathmatch
GoldenEye: Source SDK Base
Follow Freeman HL2 Deathmatch
Metastasis Half-Life 2
SMod Half-Life 2
SourceForts HL2 Deathmatch
SourceRacer Half-Life 2
Pilotable Strider HL2 Deathmatch
Synergy SDK Base
Zombie Master SDK Base
Rock 24 Half-Life 2
Insects Infestation SDK Base

Since Episode One comes with HL2 Deathmatch you are pretty much set for nearly all multiplayer mods out there.

Wow, thanks so much Operational!

That really clears things up and helps me quite a bit.

Cheers :D
