First

Just got my Gigabyte X800XL with Silentpipe cooling ( passive ) and when I play games without sound I can hear strange noises, I'm not sure if its the graphics card but I could'nt hear these when I had my X800PRO with fan cooling. The noise appears in ATI Tool while you are artifact scanning.

Anyone know what could cause this noise, is it bad ?

EDIT: forgot to mention that I've connected my graphics card, HDD and 2 DVD drives with the same power cable from the power supply unit, anything to do with it ?

Second

Sometimes a bluescreen appears after Windows has loaded, you know after the logo and preloader. Anyway I never get too see the text on the bluescreen since my PC reboots few seconds later. First I thought it had something to do with my Geforce 2 GTS where the fan was crap but now when I've installed my new X800XL the issue is still there. Does'nt happen everytime you start it, but once in a while.

I'd love someone to tell me more about why this happens and how it can be solved, I've tried to get some help on IRC channels but without success.

I've been running with my current system for along time without this issue, it began appearing some week ago and now I'm getting worried

I'll post my PC specs just incase they could be for any help

CPU: P4 2,8 Ghz Prescott
MTB: Abit IS-7e
RAM: 1GB DDR, one stick is a KingMax Superram, the other is some A-Data, but not sure.
GFX: Gigabyte X800XL
HDD:40GB Samsung Spinpoint

What is the noise like and where is it coming from?

Also...did you un install the old drivers from the other video card then install the new drivers? If not that would explain the trouble with windows.

Also...those devices all on the same power cable shouldn't cause a problem...but it might be a good idea to put them all on 2 instead so you don't overload the rails and make it unstable.

Ive changed the cables, now im using one cable for HDD and graphics card. Also Ive opened the case and I think the sound comes from the Power Supply Unit, but not sure. Is it possible it could be the PSU ?

What does the noise sound like? Does it sound like a fan grinding again something? No wires in the way of any fans is there?

It's probably the PSU fan grinding. Hit the back of the PSU with some force and tell me if it stops for awhile (15 seconds or so). Mine did that and I had to replace it.

Ya its the PSU, going to buy a new one tomorrow. Unfortunantly I cant afford anything good so it'll be some Atrix 520W :/
