I'm sure a lot of you are also getting this if you purchased through steam. The game actually runs great when it's working but it will often freeze during cut scenes (dialogue still continues) and sometimes it will revert back and play the remaining scene. Other times I have to manually restart my PC because altctrldel doesn't do shit.

Anyone fixed this and if not, who should I send a polite email to at valve?

I see your problem. You are pressing Alt-Ctrl-Del and not Ctrl-Alt-Del.

I have the Steam version and the cut scenes play fine, it's must be your system. Also it's not Valve who you contact, unless it's Steam that is actually causing the issue then you contact Rockstar. Valve can't fix Rockstars game so e-mailing them is pointless.

it's def. not my system, there are countless threads with people who have the same problem. some people are able to fix it, some aren't.

i saw a thread on steampowered in which a guy says to copy a saved game file, reinstall the game, replace the file and it works....i might try that.

Just because it happens to other people doesn't mean it's not your system. When the majority of people play the game fine, it is your system. Whether it's hardware or software, firmware or driver, is what you need to figure out.

But yes, I recommend contacting support/customer service, therefore you can get the troubleshooting rolling. They may have a canned fix, but probably not.

It might be helpful to see if your computer has anything in common with the other people that have this problem. Keep in mind, it could be something stupid; try installing DirectX again.

Well, I tried installing DX again as well as a new driver and still encountered the problem. Next step, email rockstar...step after that, kill myself.

you're so silly, that does the same thing!!! lolol

GTAIV won't even launch for me on Steam, it just refuses. I've given up with it. It's staggering how many issues there are with that game. I don't put it down to Steam but down as a generally bad port.

I would have done the same if it wasn't amazingly fun to go on murderous rampages when i get home from work...it's too much hassle to play on xbox, i like my mouse.

Freezing during a cut-scene - I wonder what things could cause that.

If you have on-board sound but are using a sound card, you could try it with on-board sound.

Are your graphic settings too high?

I've fixed issues before by trying a different sound card, trying on-board sound, lowering the graphics settings (like texture resolution), building a better computer.

Does the game have a configuration text file? Like config.ini or something?

It might be pre-loading things while the cut-scene is playing, and running out of RAM or someshit. Really, I have no idea. I don't own this game.

Something like this:
–noprecache, u can try this. It disables pre-caching of textures and models (UPDATE: havent tried yet but i presume it does work).

Or you could try this:
-fullspecaudio or -minspecaudio (switches between high end CPU audio footprint and low end CPU audio footprint UPDATE: does work, i believe)
Configuration editing - prepare to do some reading:

i'm finding that a majority of my games are freezing now, some times requiring me to restart. i'm making an assumption that I OC'd my GPU too much so I'm going to lower it a tad and see if that works...

Do you need to clean the dust out of your computer? Remove the RAM and clean the dust and from the area where it plugs in. See if you can clean the dust out of inside the GPU fan enclosure.
