Typical! HL2 now has something in common with Doom 3!

And that commonality is, the main antagonist is not defeated in some way until the expansion.

It takes until Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil to defeat Dr. Betruger, and it takes until HL2: Episode 1 to destroy the Citadel (probably).

I hate it when this happens. Why can't games just wrap up their storylines in the main game?

Mmm... I wouldn't really call the Citadel an antagonist. That title goes to Breen, who, depending on your interpretation, either died at the end of HL2, or is still kicking around in a blinged-out host body.

Thank god, I thought for a minute they had released a crap film on HL2 as well!!

Do you mean the Doom movie? I agree. (Shudders) :x

becuase then there'd be no point of a sequel or episodic content.

Ah, but you Destroy the Citadel in Half-Life 2. It Explodes as a result of your destruction in Episode One.

But yeah, the same thing probably applies more to Breen who is probably not deaded. But then Breen is about 20,000 times more interesting than "rar! i'm evil!" Betruger.

Half Life 1 ended with you not killing the Gman so in theory Doom 3 has something in common with HL1.

Also, I don't remember fighting the Citadel in HL2, just the people inside it.

Finally, I didn't think the whole citadel blew up in HL2, just the top where Alyx and Gordon were at? Which was clearly glowing red in Episode 1.

I think if they are going to do something like this(multiple episodes) they are going to have to lower the price.

Please. Explain. I beg of ye.

$4 a chapter isn't cheap enough?

Huh. I fail to see your point. HL2 was about destroying the Citadel, which you did. EP1 was about getting the f*ck out of City 17. Which you did.

20 bucks to continue a story you were expecting to get in one package seems like a jip to me(now mind you I will pay ever cent need). $4 a chapter doesn't seem like much but it adds up over time and almost makes me think it's a scam to get more money out of us.
If you are going to charge 20 bucks for an expansion I want more revealing content. There was A LOT in that game, and it was amazing, worth every penny, but if I have to shell that out for god knows how many episodes it just won't be worth it in the end. I would prefer to have it all in one nice box(or download) and save 40-60 dollars.

Three episodes. $20 each (Preorder = 10% off, $18). Let's say each time you decide to preorder the game. That's 18x3=54.

You're not spending more money. Episodes are to bridge the gap between 4+ year waits. If VALVe decided to build one ultimate HL3 game, you'd be complaining about the wait.

I can wait, I'm patient. This doesn't boil my blood, but I would prefer more for my dollar.

Since you're patient, then why not wait until Episodes 2 and 3 are out and then play those two together?

Pretty much what I intend to do

That is pretty much what I intend to do, I admit that I saw the game (episode) released and just purchased it, but had no idea that Valve had already stated it was going to be short lived, so when it ended so abrubtly I was left really miffed.

Will wait for 2 and 3 to be released and then play back to back, rumour has it that EP2 is going to be bigger than EP1 so lets hope this is the case.

For me it still needs things addressed but I need to play through to see how it ends, for me HL was one of the best games ever so I really hope that valve can capture the originality and capture that 'something' that it had sadly missing in HL2 and EP1 (for me anyway).

people who quantify the pleasure of playing a game into 'getting the most for their dollar' are nerds
it is a GAME, you are not getting anything for your dollar

To tell you the truth I was expecting "LOL DARK AREAS....FLASHLIGHT"

Reality check here. If the game was going to ever be shipped with the content in Aftermath as well, we would have had to wait Seven and a Half years for Half-Life 2. Your arse is doing the speaking if you honestly believe that you would have waited patiently for another 2 and a half years from the point at which HL2 was supposedly going to come out in September 2003. I don't see how HL2 is anything less than complete: games have always been about starting out and then killing the big bad something. If you're lucky they'll tag a two minute getaway scene on the end. Valve gave us a tense 3 hour getaway scene and charged us less than the Price of a DVD for it. Problem?

Which would you rather have:

1) 5 minute lap-dance from Eva Longoria
2) 30 minute lap-dance from Joan Rivers.

I'ts quality and not just duration.

Eva Longoria is overrated :frown:
What's that? Stay on topic?

Bottomline is episodic gaming = winnar, but we still need a full length game once in a while. Like HL3 :) *waits eagerly*

Of course not! Valve should be giving us money to play their game! :P

What price do you pay for a whole game/expo?

From what I hear, it's $50-70 over there in yankyland.

Three episodes= one expo=$54
