"Based in the near future - 2020, where a super secret military organization SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization) becomes operational. Its purpose, to defend Earth from an Alien race, which has been abducting humans from all corners of planet earth for decades. SHADO's cover is a Hollywood Studio where their main headquarters are hidden deep below the surface. SHADO run by the extremely dedicated "Studio Mogul" and SHADO Commander Ed Straker has a cadre of crack operatives with an arsenal of cutting edge futuristic weapons systems and hidden bases on earth and beyond."

Sound vaguely familiar? well if you take out the SHADO garbage and the hollywood studio bullshit, you've essentially got the plot for XCOM: UFO Defense.

I wish we had another Independence Day type film, but this sounds very bland

You want another Independence Day type film? Like there hasn't been enough shit released this year.

if you call Independence Day shit I will gouge out your eyes with the cold dead hands of Michael Jackson and make sure Jeff Goldblum is in attendance

and yet, it's based on the TV series from the early 70s. Which predates XCOM by some margin.

damn you...i was going to spill my vast knowledge of the story behind the original UFO: enemy unknown.

yeah, the Gollop brothers got the inspiration from the ufo 70' series.

and did anyone notice the difference in titles of the US release and european?

in Europe it's Enemy unknown, in the US it's UFO defense...typical arrogant, pretentious, raw american attitude. :)

Independence Day. Was. Shit! :p

Independence Day managed to be good, authentic, silly fun. Very few stupid movies manage that anymore.

I agree, how Independence Day did what it did was beyond me. The entire film was just all wrong, but it just worked. Never gets old that film, have a blast everytime I watch it.

same here....if you think too much it's very lame, but surprisingly it's pretty enjoyable.

Well, it's your lucky day. Roland Emmerich plans on making two sequels.

I'm not too happy about him making any films, expecially the Foundation trilogy :bonce:.

two sequels, blah i don't like that. there are so few sequels that do justice to the original movies.
i'd rather see a spiritual successor.
