I'm trying to verify the correct address format for use in the UK. After googling, I've found this:

Code:
Nildram Ltd         [recipient]
Ardenham Court [building name, not all addresses have this part.]
Oxford Road         [street name]
AYLESBURY           [postal town (town/city)]
BUCKINGHAMSHIRE     [county (not needed)]
HP19 3EQ            [postal code]
GREAT BRITAIN       [country name]
Is this what is commonly used? Are there parts listed above that I could leave out of an address form? TY in advance :D

My address is in this format:
[House name]
[Street]
[Town]
[County]
[Post Code]

But you don't need the steet so long as you have the house name, as the post code is pretty much the same thing.

Mine goes:

[House number + street]
[Town]
[County]
[Post code]

I could put the estate name between the 1st and 2nd lines but it's pointless. I could also probably add another one before that too. But meh.

so basically, there's like 10 different ways you can write your address.

If you're going overseas then you prob need to Country.

TBH though everything bar house number and postcode is redundant

Redundancy is always nice though.

If you just slap a place name / house number and a postcode on it, it'll get there ...

EG. 10 Mable Avenue, LS3 4LT

The rest isn't needed, but its best to put it on just to be safe.

As long as you have house number/name and the post code it should get there. Also the country if you are sending from another country.

okay, how about phone numbers... is there a common format they follow?

Area Code, Number.

Like - 0131 223 4114 - 0131 would be the area code.

For phoning the uk from another country, it would be +44 0131 223 4114

I would strongly recommend putting the polar coordinates of the address on too... just in case.

Well from what I understand, basically everything in an address except the addressee's name and postal code are redundant.

Why do they need redundant items like that...I mean, they could have cut that up...I guess when they made that, they were just being VERY specific, lol.

You could probably get a letter delivered with just the postcode, but you put the rest on just to be sure.

Everyone in my area shares the same postcode. Therefore it could end up in any of the 18 houses that are here.

Wait a minute, how the hell else would you write an address?

Uh, no... my postman knows my family name... I lived at my current address for a year, moved away for another year, and the first time the postman delivered mail once we moved back, he got all confused because of the name on the stuff he was delivering.

Minimum you'd need would be name, house number and post code.

Ah sorry dude, I thought you were being all 'HURRRRR BRITAIN IS SO TINY THEY ALL KNOW EACH OTHER!'

But yeah, I think you could actually get away with just a name and a postcode, but its better to be safe than sorry, hence all the extra adresses.

haha,

My dad was talking to a park warden in America a couple of years ago.

dad:I'm from Ireland
Park warden: I have a friend in Ireland, his names Micheal, do you know him?

{needed}
(recommended)
<optional>

<Name>
{House name or number}
{Road or street name}
(Town)
(County)
{Postcode}

For phone numbers the format is 01234 (area code) 123456 (local code) e.g.
01234 123456
For international dialing for the uk, you replaced the first 0 (all area codes start with 0) with 44, so for our example, you would dial
441234123456

haha... convo between a coworker and I about UK phone numbers:

him: what's an example of a valid UK phone number?
me: (01xxx) xxx xxx
(01x1) xxx xxxx
(011x) xxx xxxx
(02x) xxxx xxxx
(01xxx) xxxxx
(01xxxx) xxxxx
(01xxxx) xxxx
him: that is absolute madness
me: i'd say THIS IS SPARTA, but its actually britain...
him: HAAAH

thought i'd share :D
