It's that time of year again, in the hope that taste might win over tat this year I'm purchasing 'Mad World' by gary Jules, hopefully stopping the darkness from winning with their incoherent queen wannabe rocktastic melange.

Mad world may not be 'Christmasy', but at least if it beats the darkness you will be spared a lifetime of endless plays of Justin and his dumb chums Every ****ing Christmas for the rest of eternity.

i gave up on uk no 1 about 7 years ago. no matter how hard you try there are always those dopey little wank stains who watch GMTV and eastenders and coronation street and pop idol and all the rest of it...those type of people go out and buy the shit music out there. having said that the darkness being number 1 would be a welcome change from cliff richard or westlife or any other truly shit band. at least the darkness are trying to be decent (but failing in my opinion). Mad World is an awesome song, i like the Tears For Fears version too.

LOL, I haven't bought a Single since I was probably 16. I only ever buy albums, but having listened to the trite on offer, I think it's time to make a stand. If a few pounds now saves future generations from being subjected to either the darkness, Bo Selecta, or Pop Idol's efforts, it's a sarifice worth making.

Ok ok....whats wrong with the darkness?

Admitadly, Queen were original and the Darkness are basically copies, but consider the time when they are doing this. That kind of rock was thought dead before The Darkness came on the scene. I think their retro style is great; the long hair, the tight clothes...flaming crotches man! And the ugliest frontman in the world :) (Ok thats harsh, im not being serious but he reminds me of Freddy a lot actually)

The Darkness' Christmas single is great, its about time we had a happy Christmas hit again, and when i say happy, i dont include any of that pop idle'esq trash.

yeah i like the darkness too, i just don't think they're god's gift or anything. they played support when i went to see Disturbed and believe me...they sucked hard. dunno what was wrong with them that day but it put me off ever truly loving them seeing how bad they were. and i notice it in some of their songs as well sometimes. but gary jules or the darkness? i'd go for gary jules.

I dont want gary jules to be number one purely because the first time i heard that song (donnie darko), i decided that i want it at my funeral.

If it's number 1 at christmas, it kinda spoils te effect :)

Also, has anyone heard the version of it by alex from fame academy - made me scream obscenities at the tv ;(

I want the darkness to be number 1 btw :D

The Darkness rock more than an electric rocking machine.

Mad World is a great song. Its from the movie Donnie Darko. Very, very good movie imho.

Yes!!

Mwahahaha!! My evil plan worked!! Darkness = No 2

You don't win Silver, you lose Gold!!

*Gloats in his evilness :naughty:

It doesn't matter what it is as long as it's not:
1. That dire dire piece of crap from the Bo Selecta gubbins. It's Godawful.
2. That travesty and all-round lynchable offence to music and John Lennon that is The Idols' cover of Merry Christmas (War Is Over). Not only is it hideously inappropriate given the current political climate, it's a general pillaging of Lennon's success and a cash-in on the sh*tty fad of Pop Idol. Poor man is probably spinning in his grave. Yoko Ono should have been shot a long time ago. If children grow up thinking this is an original song then... I don't actually know if I can find the words inside me to convey my disgust. The only consolation is that it was never his best song, although that misses the point entirely. At least it's not Imagine.
