The goverment has ordered a review of the effect of video games on the public due to the ill-informed press and bad wording video games have been recieving in the past few months. The aim of the review might be to allow the goverment to take steps to limit the use of the internet in some ways and also to censor/ban certain types of video games (like in germany).

The best way to prevent something like that happening is to respond to the report with a positive view towards video games. The public has until the 17th of December to respond so hurry up and get as many people as you can to help the cause as well.

Here is some more information: http://www.computerandvideogames.com...75744&site=cvg

Respond on these websites:
http://www.dfes.gov.uk/byronreview/respond.html
http://www.bebo.com/byronreview
http://www.myspace.com/byronreview

I'm not sure yet whether to respond seriously or not on this form yet. Might do it twice.

wtf, wouldnt it be against the constitution to ban something like GAMES?? ffs its the induviduals choice if he wants to play a game, no one elses, why care what a person does in his private time as long as it doesnt harm anyone?? Just trying to control people and oppress them, ****t up.

Looking at the questions it mostly seems to be about things like ratings of games, and playing time control (such as the type WoW and CIV have I think).

Playing time control? NO ONE, no matter WHAT, can tell you to stop doing something in your private time, it is YOUR business, no one elses. If you want to sleep all day, its your choice, if you want to read all day, its your choice, if you want to masturbate all day, its your choice, if you want to PLAY A GAME all day, its your choice.

It is your right, no one can take it away from you, no matter WHAT.

I don't think England has a constitution.

I don't think England has a constitution.

upps, i missread the title, thought this was the united states. Anyway, same thing applies to whatever the UK uses as a base for the government.

Best of luck to the government, this is the UK, not some continental European coddle country.

Bigger men have tried to take our freedoms and failed.

I don't think we'll end up with a system where games are banned on a regular basis. We might have tighter age restrictions however as currently we only have 2 systems with are both voluntary to a degree. We currently have the PEGI system (http://www.pegi.info/en/index/) which is both voluntary on behalf of the publisher and retailers so a child of any age can go into a shop and still legally purchase an 18+ title. The BBFC system (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/) is a superior system simply because the age restrictions are legally enforceable. As with the PEGI system however submission for verification is still voluntary for publishers although the publishers wouldn't dare release a mature title without it having at least one age verification label on it.

We're probably going to end up with possibly a single legally binding system enforcable on both publishers and retailers.

They can't take our freedom!

They can kick our asses, but they can't kick our freedom!

Like the freedom to own firearms? OOPS!

Even the police don't have firearms! D:

Thats okay...then can just run up to the armed thugs and melee them with their batons...

Like the freedom to own firearms? OOPS!

But you can own a firearm. As long as you have a lisence, you can buy, collect and shoot guns. Just like in America, except its much harder to get one.

Guys, this is not something to be taken lightly. Remember what happened with the Violent Crime Reduction Act, and how this government banned the manufacture, sale and importation of toy guns. While this isn't coming up to be made law right now, its never too early to start fighting it.

This government will not hesitate to take away our civil freedoms if it makes them look good the the eyes the readers of the Daily Mail and what not. Respond to this call for evidence. When it goes into a bill, write to your MP.

Keep up the pressure, thats the only way we have a hope of dealing with it.

Or just storm the Queen's estate and force her to stop!
Oh, wait, you don't have guns! Nevermind.

And if I'm drastically overestimating the Queen's power (You still have a queen, right?) Then just take her hostage and ransom her back to parliament (You still have that too, right?)
I'm going completely off what I leanred in eighth grade about the revolution. lul.

Pfft you don't need guns to perform that kind of operation. Sure they help as a long range weapon but certaintly not a requirment. Considering a plan to storm the Queen would involve quite a huge amount of man power.

Or Chuck Norris.
Yes, I went there.

They already have - the right to free speech no longer exists, due to "hate crimes" and suchlike. The right to silence no longer exists, as you are forced to incriminate yourself in minor motoring cases - a judgement the European Court of Human Rights recently upheld. In such cases, you are considered guilty until proven innocent.

Chuck Norris is a huge amount of man power. I did take him into account in my earlier post.

Wow that's rather dodgy. Here you only need to tell a police officer your full name and address, you can lie about everything else. Although generally in minor incidences it's best to comply anyway.

something I noticed in one of the surveys

6 Before you play a video game on the internet, do you know whether it is suitable for somebody your age?

do they mean multiplayer?

this prove they dont even know stuff about videogames

EDIT: this is what I posted at the end

as I say, politicians should know more about this stuff before making bans and censorships

like rock music or rap music in past years, they only see the people acting weird and saying bad words and instantly think that any kid would become one just by hearing one song

like in the 50's when Elvis Presley was considered a "bad role model" for the youths by the parents but for the sons it was a entertainer, and today there are tons of fans of Elvis which are ground up and are normal people

so making bans and censorships is kind of nonsense especially if the politicians dont know that much about the subject
stuff like the labels, which indicate the content on the game, are a good way to show to the parents what is the kid playing so if the kid is playing a game not suitable for him them the parents can stop the kid from playing the game
unless the kid is mature enough to not get influenced by everything he see on a screen

and just because video games are played by kids it dont necessary means they have to be only for kids,in fact the bigger audience for video games is people from around 30 of age
like movies, there are lots of movies targeted for kids just as movies targeted for adults, but if kids watch movies does that means all movies should be made for kids only?

They can't take our freedom!

As a Scot I find that offensive, and I'm sueing you for 2 million for irreparable emotional damage and mental anquish.

See you in court.

(If you take this seriously so help me god I'm gonna plant my face in my hand.)

Like the freedom to own firearms? OOPS!

Thats YOUR freedom, mate.

Thats okay...then can just run up to the armed thugs and melee them with their batons...

That or call the firearms response units who actually have training with those weapons to show up.

Are you guys living in parts of America where your wife has to move over in bed to make room for your Winchester?, your only true love or something?.

Not everyone in the world thinks owning a firearm is desirable or some massive infringement of human rights, considering they are, by their nature, designed to take life.

But you can own a firearm. As long as you have a lisence, you can buy, collect and shoot guns. Just like in America, except its much harder to get one.

Indeed, but then again, having to get a license that proves your responsible is you know, just not fair.

That or some folk are too lazy.
