Alienware's showing off this eye-catcher at CES. It's a 2880x900 curved monitor backlit by LEDs and boasts a .02ms response time. It'll be out in the second half of this year. Price will be somewhere between "very expensive" and "really ****in' expensive."

me want

I'm not really a big fan of curved monitors like that, but could be cool I guess.

Way too wide, not tall enough I think. It looks like widescreen gone way overboard.

I wonder what the pixel aspect ratio on that thing is.

frankly that's not the true selling point for me ..this is:

"monitor backlit by LEDs"

the only commercial one I've seen was I think 24" (tv) and cost somewhere around $9000 ..in a few years they'll overtake lcds

How do you know, have you used a curved monitor before?

I think it would be unreal to play on, but again, at what cost.
I amazed at the response time though, thats excellent.

LCDs with LED backlighting is all the craze currently, almost all new good laptops come with LED backlightning. It's not that revolutionary =)

I don't have to use one to know whether I think it'd suit me or not. I *HAVE* used flat screen monitors and I can say that I would prefer them to any alternative.

but imagine having the screen contour to your eyes, giving a some-what reasonable aspect into the game. Its basically just 1 step closer to being fully immersed, for a measly years salary :)

My ideal screen would be 3D glasses with in game head tracking for total immersion and ease of use.

This, while impressive, would be too much both for my desktop and my wallet.

The amount of games that support that resolution is lower than the amount of people who will buy that thing.

Its gunna be way more than a grand. Multiple grands morelike.

Im with Raziaar, dont think I would like the curve. I also dont like how short it looks. Plus with the space I have in my room/ on my desk, I would have to be fairly close to the monitor, and thus need to actually turn my head to see whats happening.

Maybe initially, but they probably won't sell too well at a high price. They are designed for PC gamers, and we all know the PC gaming market has been decreasing considerably. Plus, they can't be used with consoles because none of the games support that resolution. You can also currently buy high quality 46" DLP HDTVs for around $900. It really depends on the final specs of the monitor.

picture the amount of porn videos you could watch at the same time. That thing would have to come with wipers for me to get it.

Yup, but with glasses instead of a monitor display. It not only allows for a larger picture, potentially your entire field of view, it also allows for more than one player at a time.
